Hello Angelus,
The Fran Bow game does not support Steam Cloud saves. You must use the "savedata.ini" file created and updated automatically as you play the game, and stored on a local drive in a specific location for game progress to be saved between game play sessions. This "savedata.ini" file also stores the variables that control whether a given chapter is unlocked for visiting later as you play the game and use the Chapters menu. The game unlocks each chapter as soon as you have completed a play through of that chapter the first time. If this file is removed from the local drive where it is normally stored, then the computer no longer knows that the Fran Bow game has been played before, and all Chapters of the game are then locked when the game is again played (and all prior game progress is lost as well). This file is stored on Linux computers at this location:
~/.config/Fran_Bow/
(Please note that this folder is hidden by default on Linux computers.)
From your description of where you were, it really sounds like you were in Chapter 4 (rather than the last Chapter--Chapter 5), when you last played, so my recommendation is that after you copy this "savedata.ini" file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-V4ozvekwP4cGZVank1dlF6MWc/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-zwwjawL5zZnDKFoZqFLLEQ to the folder noted above, you start up the game and select Chapter 4 from the Chapters Menu of the game and see if that is where you want to begin playing again. You can always return to the Chapters menu and select Chapter 5 if that is truly where you last were playing.
Fortunately, the "savedata.ini" file generated on any platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) is usable on any of those platforms. I did test this "savedata.ini" file on my Linux computer, and it does have all the Chapters unlocked in the Chapters menu when playing on a Linux computer.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the Fran Bow game, Angelus.
For anyone else reading this post, it is highly recommended that you NOT use this "savedata.ini" unless you have already played through the Fran Bow game at least once as it is recommended that the chapters of the game be played through in their original order.
the save game file works without problems, thank you very much! It was indeed chapter 4 we were in. Looking forward now to finishing the game!
Angelus
