Report a translation problem
Thanks for this report and I'm sorry for the trouble you're having in playing the game. From your description, it does indeed sound like you've done everything you're supposed to do to proceed in the game.
However, I must point out that it IS possible to have all the items lined out in green on the "good" recipe, and still not have put them into the pot of boiling water on the stove , so I can't be positive that you've done everything. To verify this, if you could post again with a list of items still in your inventory, this might help us to determine if this IS a bug or not. The game will continue to tell you that you are missing ingredients IF you haven't added them to the boiling water in the pot.
However, if all the ingredients ARE in the pot (which I understand is likely based on what you've said in your post , then we must assume that there IS a bug. This issue has been reported before in these discussions; however, I have not been able to replicate it to see what is causing it so it can be fixed. If you care to help, here are some things you can do:
- It appears from your Steam profile that you are no longer playing the Fran Bow game at the time I write this post. Please start the game up again, select the Continue option on the Main Menu of the game, and check to see if the game now behaves differently and if you can finish the puzzle you're working on. If you can now play the game and finish the potion , then the bug you encountered is caused by some conflict that can be resolved by exiting from the game and then Continuing it. But if the game doesn't behave any differently, (you still can't finish the potion , then,
- Upload the file that contains your Fran Bow game progress to a cloud service, and post again in this thread with a link to that file so I can take a look at it to see if I can figure out how to replicate the issue that causes the bug. The difficulty in replicating this bug is that you can acquire inventory items and solve some of the puzzles in this part of the Chapter in different orders, and perhaps one of these orders in solving the puzzles/acquiring inventory items causes the bug to appear, while the majority do not. Looking at your "savedata.ini" file might help me figure out what order you acquired inventory and solved puzzles.
Again, I'm sorry that you're having this issue, saintshing. Perhaps, just exiting from the game and using the Continue option will allow you to proceed. If not, a copy of your "savedata.ini" file would be helpful. The "savedata.ini" file is located at this location:
c:\users\<Your Windows Login Name>\Appdata\Roaming\Fran_Bow\savedata.ini
(You may see this file named only "savedata" if you have "Hide File Extensions for Known File Types" turned on in your Windows Folder Options. This is still the file that I need to look at.).
In return, here's a "savedata.ini" file you can download and copy to the location specified above which will allow you to proceed in the game. Once you copy this file (and overwrite the file already there with the same name), you'll just need to add the hair from the twin's into the pot of boiling water, and the potion will be complete and will appear automatically in your inventory just as the walkthrough you referred to said it would. . This should allow you to proceed in this chapter. My file is located here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-V4ozvekwP4clNia0dyLXFDcTA/view?usp=sharing&resourcekey=0-MEEKX-Eq85LmpjyYs1jVMg. Please copy your original "savedata.ini" off somewhere else if you haven't yet copied it to the cloud for me to look at, if you choose to use the "savedata.ini" file I've posted for your use.
I hope this post is helpful (sorry for its length). Post again with the results of your progress, and thank you, saintshing.

I replaced my savefile with yours and is able to make progress.
Thanks a lot for your help. Your game is great and I am glad I can continue to enjoy it. I hope you can fix the issue soon. Let me know if you need any other information.
Thanks for this additional information.
When I used your "savedata.ini" file, I found that I WAS ABLE to proceed in the game.
The black candles were not lit in your original game progress. Once I lit the candles, the game proceeded--the potion was seen as complete, and was added to my inventory automatically as the game was designed to do. Perhaps you just thought you lit the candles and really had not? I do agree that the message indicating that you are still missing ingredients when you click on the boiling pot on the stove (when you really just haven't lit the candles) can be misleading you into thinking something is bugged in this puzzle since the "real" thing missing is not hinted at. .
But, I still don't think there is any bug in this portion of the chapter.
I appreciate you taking the time to provide your "savedata.ini" and the screen shot of your inventory, saintshing. I am also glad that you are enjoying the game as well. Thank you.
I'm tried reloading the save file, re entering the room where the sisters appear and re clicking all important things like the scroll, the pot and the ritual symbol on the floor.
Hello Epicrex,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble with this puzzle. I just replayed this section of the game using the Unity version of the game and did not encounter any issue in my gameplay.
It is not clear from your description where the pot is? Is it now in your inventory, or is it still on the stove? If it's still on the stove, normally this means something is still missing from the ingredients, or you have not put the ashes and candles on the floor and lit those candles yet. And the scroll containing the "good recipe" is always in your inventory once obtained, so I know where that is.
You said you clicked on the pot, but didn't say WHERE the pot is when you do click on it. Is it in your inventory because the potion has been created already, or is it still on the stove when you click on it?
Assuming that the potion IS in your inventory already when you click on it, the game responds with "I made the most incredible magic potion in the world!" What you may have missed is that when the potion IS completed by adding the last ingredient to the pot, or lighting the candles on the floor is Fran's thought that says, "I should show the girls that the potion is ready!" (Screenshot here[drive.google.com])
Assuming that the pot containing the finished potion IS in your inventory, I can offer one suggestion that might get you on your way:
Did you try to USE potion on twins?
If nothing in this reply helps you, I'd be happy to take a look at your save game file and let you know if I obtain the same results as you do. If so, I'll "fix" your save game so that you can proceed in the game. And, if I can proceed in the game with your save game as is, I'll let you know that too.
If you wish to do this, please upload your autosave game to a cloud service and reply in this thread with the URL to that uploaded file. Here are some instructions for finding that autosave file in the Unity version of the game:
The autosave file(s) are called:
If you'd like me to take a look at your autosave file, please upload the FranBow_0.save file to a cloud service (I do not need the FranBow_0.jpg file) and reply in this thread with the URL to that file. I'll take a look and report back either telling you that I get the same results you do with your autosave, or explain how you can proceed. If your autosave IS bugged, I'll post one that you can resume your game progress with, just as I did for the gamer in this thread who was using the Game Maker Legacy version of the game. I do note that the last gamer posting in this thread before you did NOT have a bugged game. My hope is something similar will happen this time as well.
I hope you find this reply helpful, and look forward to hearing from you again in this thread.
And here my save file: https://mega.nz/folder/yGQSSZpK#m_tL4x7sERBlv6CMLxPexw
I also just wanted to say that I love the mood of fran, and especially how missfortune built on that, I'm hopoing we'll get something with a similar atmosphere in the future. I'd personally though prefer a bit more mechanical gameplay and a bit less point and click puzzle gameplay. Something more in the direction of little nightmares, just a thought.
Regards,
Sidney
Hello again Sidney,
Thanks for the screenshots and your save game. Having these items makes helping much easier than guessing . . .
I WAS able to finish the puzzle using your save game just fine. Your screenshot shows that you HAVEN'T put everything required to make the potion into the pot. You're still missing "6 Hair from the one you want to bewitch".
Here's another thread discussing that very issue: https://steamcommunity.com/app/362680/discussions/0/1480982338962290895/.
As said in that thread, the entire puzzle is not solved using that information, but it gets you closer. Feel free to write again in this thread if you would like more assistance.
Thanks very much for your kind words about the game.and I'm glad that you're enjoying it. The developers of the game do read gamer comments in this forum, and consider what is said here when developing future games.
I hope you have fun playing the rest of the Fran Bow game.
"But how can I get more hair from the girls?" "I have to trick them, but how?"
After reading your comment though
"Have you looked at the object just below the window in the room with the record player? Seen all the descriptive text when you click on it?"
It dawned on me that the tricking would happen before they came back.
Looking back, I do now see that this was foreshadowed in some way, by her saying that they would notice that an item wasn't listed, or something along the lines of that.
Thanks for the help!
