Exanima

Exanima

It's 2025, where does Sui Generis stand?
It's been years since we heard anything. Ripples in 2019 for closed beta testing? Has anyone got anything or did the studio dissolve in 2023?

The studio is still very much alive and the devs are working. Exanima receives hotfixes every few month while major updates drop yearly (sometimes it takes a bit more, like now). Sui Generis doesn't exist, but you could say Exanima has technically all the concepts and features that Sui Generis is supposed to eventually get, or at least that's what is being told regularly around here. It's up to you whether you find that important or not. This thread is going to attract all the trolls and dishonest haters very soon so I'm not lingering, have a nice day.

big up to jean, what he said is damn accurate from what i know
exanima is the precurser to sui generis, the testing grounds to build their specially made engine for sui generis

something that i hope for is that when exanima is finished its full throttle towards sui generis with the vast amount of work into it going towards content rather than engine related fixes, tweaks and additions though thats just me hoping, zero grounds in anything factual with that last bit

Next to the colonization of Mars.

At this point it's better to come to terms that Sui Generis is a pipe dream. It will never release.

There's cope, and then there's consuming grade A Burisma-grade copium.

Man, I've been keeping an eye on this game periodically over the years, and I'm shocked that it wasn't been finished yet, and even more shocking is that people actually believe Sui Generis is ever going to be a thing, but the cherry to top it all is "Exanima is technically Sui Generis" LOL. Whenever I need a good laugh, reading the topics here never disappoints.

Cool story bro.

If you had asked the question instead of immediate aggression, I would have told you that I don't care about Sui Generis at all. That's not what I paid for when buying Exanima. In fact I only paid for one thing when buying Exanima : it's called Exanima, and it's a very good and inexpensive game. Anything beyond that is of no interest to me, I simply repeated what has been told around these threads before. As I said to OP, "that's what is being told regularly around here. It's up to you whether you find that important or not."

For what I know, Exanima became a game by force of circumstances but it always had the goal of being the laboratory of Sui Genesis.
After what I do not understand is why guys who do not particularly appreciate the game, or even who have never tested it, continue to come on this forum...
Is your life that boring ? :Owlcat_sleepless:
I like Exanima for what it is, but I don't believe that we'll see Sui Generis in our life time. Maybe if someone will be lucky enough to live for 100 years he'll be able to participate in the closed alpha... Still, Exanima is one of my favorite games, so I'm not complaining. I'd be happy to see some NPC's and quests though. And a cheer emote for those cool arena moments.

As someone with Lovecraft for an avatar that's a funny question, some people find the development hell of this studio not to mention the "studio can do no wrong and are definitely not racketeers" community morbidly fascinating. Especially those who have knowledge of game development. Have you read the Steam negative reviews and all the people who respond to them, its not pretty.

The development slowed down by 4 times :D ! Instead of writing walls of texts weekly , they do it monthly. But if you can call (walls of useless texts) "development" - then game is not dead but if your sane ,then sui generis is truly a pipe dream. No idea what happened to devs but they really did lose intrest in their own game.

Sui Generis is meant to be some sort of sprawling, large-scale open world fantasy RPG game. But Exanima is NOTHING close to that. Exanima might not be 1.0 for another year or two, and Sui Generis definitely won't release this decade.

Exanima is a dense, dark, mostly empty dungeon-crawler. There's no quests. There's barely any dialogue. There's one friendly NPC. The rest of the game is just combat, and trudging around empty dark corridors, while you occasionally do a little physics based puzzle to open a door or pull a lever, and kill mindless undead.

If this is the extent of what they've accomplished in 12 years of development, then don't expect any significant progress anytime soon.

Are you sure this is true?

I backed Sui Generis on kickstarter. I think I only paid a tenner or something though, I got the cheapest option that included the game.
I've ended up with this game instead, but I'm not bothered I think I've had my moneys worth. If Sui Generis ever appears that's a bonus
