Sui Generis
Does it even still exist? Is that game ever going to come out or is it just gonna be small incremental updates to Exanima for the foreseeable future? Was really looking forward to that game based on the previews but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

I was hoping that the devs would chime in with something to the effect of "it's still in the works" or "we canceled it, Exanima is the main project now" or anything that provides some sort of explanation or direction for where things are going but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
The devs themselves don't always read everything posted on the steam forums, but Madoc sees virtually everything posted on the discord. For what it's worth though, I can tell you it's still in the works and it's still the ultimate goal; everything developed for Exanima is developed with SG in mind as others have said. The game has grown massively in scope, and it's definitely not a tech demo anymore regardless if it ever was. Whether that's a good thing depends on who you ask, but I for one am optimistic about SG taking a shorter time to finish than Exanima.

I don't see a need to lock this thread since no one's been rude or anything, and I'm not for censoring discussion. There are a few veterans from the KS days who haven't liked the expansion of the scope, and still others who have been happy to see it grow. In any case, Sui Generis is the ultimate goal and it's being worked on.

its not like 10 years from now youll be living on mars with no downtime to play games, time is gonna go by anyway. who cares if it takes another ten years. i just want it to be good.

everything that was made for exanima is also being used for sui generis so the development for the latter will be much faster

I don't even know if I'll remember this game was supposed to exist 10 years from now. I could be married with kids, lol

They're developing a completeily novel game engine, so getting the mechanics down and polishing them to perfection now will save heaps of time in the future, so stop crying about it. I'm sure there are tons of games for you to play in the meantime.

10 years is a long time, though.
Sure, time will pass, but for many people a lot in life can change in that time. Things that will prevent you from playing the games that you once wanted to.

I mean, idk how other people are, i can only speak for myself, but this is a game i would never lose interest in or ever be unwilling to make a few hours for. this definitely isnt a normal game, they even say this on the store page. exanima dosnt really appeal to a casual crowd, so somebody that dosnt care as much might just forget about it, yeah. but i dont think the dev is really after that type of player. which is also why i love the vision for the game, it seems untainted by any popular opinions that would water it down. Just my 2c

The thing is, 10 years seems like the best case scenario. Nothing will be done for Sui Generis before Exanima hits 1.0 status. Nobody knows how many years that will take, let alone how things will go from there.

Game's Engine is built from the ground up. It's got a long development time, much older games did that a lot. For example: when RE2 was launching on the Playstation 1 in the 90's, it was delayed an insane amount of times IIRC it was 2-3 years delayed and early access didn't exist. I have a love/hate relationship with Early access games, I personally think they shouldn't exist and the studio should hire in-house Testers but at least you're able to play 20% of the game for $15 or more depending on the devs work.

Up to you if you deem such practices worth or naaah

i mean, nobody is forcing you to wait, complaining about it wont speed it up. I have no way to prove this, but i do have a feeling that most of the people complaining about the timeframe are probably still young and dont realize how fast time goes by. i still feel like skyrim came out a few years ago and i have to remind myself its been 11 years. [lol]

also, what pidegon said is true aswell, most games arnt built 100% ground up, let alone a physics engine. this game has never been made before, whereas most other games you can see they either used an existing engine, etc , or they are just triple A games with a big team and bigger budget.

if you dont count game mechanics and developing the engine and content creation tools then i guess not much has been done for sui generis
