i see people on youtube, or even the artwork section of steam - shield bashing though? and it does damage.
Not sure if the technique is good though in practice or just for getting funny clips since I never used it myself as I use the shield perks on my sword and board character.
But I dont claim to know everything, specially since I dont like shield very much, so it might be possible that there's a shield bashing method.
Usually that footwork used by the player is what I do with polearms to get heavy and sometimes fatal hits on opponents. If Im too far away and I can approach the enemy while he's on my right (torso not facing opponent) I usually double step towards him with a huge sweep to try and get fast speed and hit him hard on the head.
That gif you shared seem to me like the same motion but using a mace and a shield.
The same technique still applies, though I believe dropping 'fend' may yield better results, but I keep it personally.
The example you provided was Crecy doing the ward bash, where you're effectively throwing yourself into them with a ltr, and it can do a lot of damage, environmental and weapon.
