It won't be that. Maddoc himself said the first spell of the Light tree is the equivalent of a torch. For the rest, this kind of interactivity is difficult. Last time I checked, when someone asked about blood splatter on environment (which could be compared to using chalk or paint) would be way too complicated to add to their engine. Not impossible, just years of tweaking every object possible, and their variants, for the possibility of being bloody after a fight. Apparently, it is not worth the time investment and I kind of agree. Honestly, the best way to avoid people asking why they can't use chalk or paint on the environment is to remove those items from the game. Because not only are they useless, they also make players ask logical questions.
Allowing players to write on the maps can be useful, kind of like how you need writing material to make notes on the map in Zomboid.
Of course. I don't know why it's not already in the game, but I do agree that being able to wirte notes directly on the maps would probably help new players a lot.
