Anyway, coop and pvp will probably come with/post 1.0 but probably only for LAN play. The very nature of the game and, maybe even the hand-made engine make it very hard to implement solid online gameplay. And if you've seen the coffee diaries you know the devs or at least the project manager is a bit of a perfectionist, so I doubt it's any time soon.
You must be new here. Give it another 7 years, like me, and you'll see where I come from.
Thought I'd edit and explain all this negativity: whatever the original Sui Generis project was and whatever this is developing into are completely different things. Barely anything the dev team is working on is what the original backers and early supporters were paying for. They're doing whatever they feel like and making a finished product, let alone the product they pitched, is nowhere in sight.
Those are what I call 'shut up' updates. Not meant towards progressing towards a release. If a fan needs to chime in and say "Shut up, the updates are coming", then you're talking about a dead game.
Plenty are still testing the patches. At the moment we're just waiting for the new level and other little bits to be completed and then hopefully it'll be a short time to public release.
As for the original product, yeah, it grew massively in scope, but everything that's done for Exanima is still done with Sui Generis in mind. These systems are all designed to be used in both games.
Anyway, multiplayer is coming post 1.0. That's around two updates from now, so maybe 2-3 years.
Online and LAN is planned if I remember correctly.
To become abandonware, the IP rights of the game needs to be gone with the company that owned it. When there is no company claiming that, it is abandoned IP.
