...never
I think they've said, and I haven't kept track for a while so take this with some salt, that there aren't big plans for MP outside of lan connections.

Maaan at this point I'd just like a new playable update :D

Never. As the reviews say, this game is pretty much abandonware. No new update will change that. It's never being finished.

You will never have true online multiplayer. There is no netcode in existence to support this type of game and it would be far too complex to make by a small indie dev, if it is even possible to make at all. Best you can hope for is local multiplayer where the whole game is hosted on one pc but another player can remotely join your session with something like steam's play together. That means you'll have input delay to deal with so people aren't gonna be happy.

How exactly is it abandonware when the last update to the testing branch was literally 2 months ago? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought "abandonware" would imply that the project is, well, abandoned. As in actually abandoned, you know, not receiving fixes or new features.

Anyway, coop and pvp will probably come with/post 1.0 but probably only for LAN play. The very nature of the game and, maybe even the hand-made engine make it very hard to implement solid online gameplay. And if you've seen the coffee diaries you know the devs or at least the project manager is a bit of a perfectionist, so I doubt it's any time soon.

You must be new here. Give it another 7 years, like me, and you'll see where I come from.

Funny so many people are starting low effort threads just to whine about the development progress or even make up BS when there's already a dev post with an estimate of when the update's coming.

I'd say it's still more than a few weeks. The third round of insider testing hasn't started yet, and that would probably take a few weeks on its own. Some time next month seems likely.

I'd be amazed if any insiders are still "testing" the patches. Sorry if I don't buy it when they say they're constantly delivering updates to like one guy who stuck around.

Thought I'd edit and explain all this negativity: whatever the original Sui Generis project was and whatever this is developing into are completely different things. Barely anything the dev team is working on is what the original backers and early supporters were paying for. They're doing whatever they feel like and making a finished product, let alone the product they pitched, is nowhere in sight.

Those are what I call 'shut up' updates. Not meant towards progressing towards a release. If a fan needs to chime in and say "Shut up, the updates are coming", then you're talking about a dead game.

Well of course, written updates never really progress a game. But people want to know, hence the coffee diaries.

Plenty are still testing the patches. At the moment we're just waiting for the new level and other little bits to be completed and then hopefully it'll be a short time to public release.

As for the original product, yeah, it grew massively in scope, but everything that's done for Exanima is still done with Sui Generis in mind. These systems are all designed to be used in both games.

Nope. Check the pinned coffee diaries post. Game will never stop being worked on until it's finished, that I have faith in.

Anyway, multiplayer is coming post 1.0. That's around two updates from now, so maybe 2-3 years.
Online and LAN is planned if I remember correctly.

To become abandonware, the IP rights of the game needs to be gone with the company that owned it. When there is no company claiming that, it is abandoned IP.
