Exit of First Level?
So, I've scoured the entirety of the first level and come up with a grand total of five keys. I've tried every single one of these on the gate to the north. Click-click. Click-click. Click-click. Click-click. Click-click. Is there something I'm missing or is this broken?

The gate in the north isnt the way out of the first level unfortunately for you look around more for the exit you will find it eventually. (The exit is a big decorated metal door by the way)

Oh no. I demand to know where the exit is, I've scoured this level for hours and I refuse to go through it all once more. ; _ ;

Sorry i cant tell you exactly where the exit is because i forgot myself perhaps you can find a map online.

Do you at least know the general location? North, South, West, East? I have tried looking online and I can't find anything. The one thing I hate about Exanima is the absolute insistence on making the player run a maze, without giving them tools to navigate it properly.

I found a very rough map which lists the gate to the north as the exit... Leading me to believe something must've broken the key and now it won't work.

Do you know the "great hall" like area where you fought a red guy with a 2 handed sword? At the end of the room is a portculis door. Through the door and somewhere on the left wall further down the hall you will find a large iron double door. Click it.

Much appreciated. Turns out the map must be outdated, as it had a different area altogether listed as the exit point.

Well, in that case it may please you to know that the devs are currently conceptualizing a mapping system for Exanima. An excerpt from the official forums:

The basic concept behind this system is that your character remembers a portion of the most recently visited area. Essentially you've got auto-mapping that begins to fade as you can only remember so much. With access to the appropriate writing materials, you can then commit this recently visited area to paper and gradually create a complete map, if you want to. Without compiling this map you have something that at least prevents just going in circles, but doesn't allow you to know where you are relative to locations you visited less recently.

If you leave an area permanently marked on your map you are effectively lost, and will not know where you are relative to your drawn maps until you enter it again. However you will still remember what you recently visited. Other things may cause you to become lost or forget where you just were.

Good to hear! I'm very interested in hearing how this will be fleshed out implemented.

Level 2 is easy, you just have to get through 2 doors and you don't need any keys IIRC.
