In the story mode and there is a little cross down there flashing away. Was this something that was explained and I missed it?

Is it because I have low health?

It means you can train a new skill for your character. Press 'K'.

Maybe it's time to press K and chose a new skill to learn?

It took me a bit to figure this out, and I know this is a really old post, but it's the ability tree where you see the "Sense Mind" ability. Press P to starting learning the next or a different ability.
