"error generating character"

I've re-downloaded this game after a year or so to check out the updates, enjoying myself so far but my singleplayer character has become bugged and i can no longer change its armour, so ill have to stop playing for now.
"error generating character"
is the message i get when opening my inventory or trying to equip/unequip armour. can anybody help? i don't want to restart then risking this happening again...

Errors happen all the time in this game since the last update, which makes me sad because the last update was amazing!

Did you try to restart the game? If yes, then yeah, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Only thing you can do now is wait for a fix or restart the whole thing.
