One other thing, that increased my chances on survival are CROUCHING. You can actually crouch under ogre´s attacks, if led from certain angles. There are times when his attacks will surely hit you, unless you crouch.(but there is some risk that you fail and get a headshot)
And one last thing - the ogres got a long weapon, so always try to be near him, rather than being away from him.(So you can fight back)
The way I do it is with a spear (the longer one), and thrust attacks. The spear is the best weapon against the novice beast IMO, because it has the best range. You can attack extremely quickly, if you can do it correctly. If you keep the thrust button and the mouse button pressed down, you can do several rapid thrusts, but you have to actually land the attacks in order to get the shorter reset time on the thrust. If you miss, the reset time is longer. Shield is almost useless, because even with the shield, the beast will throw your fighters around easily. I have one of my hirelings with the same spear, and the other with the two-handed warhammer (the other best weapon for the novice beast IMO)
How did you manage that? I have 115 hours on record and I have a full roster of master level fighters. 5 player and 2 NPCs ...
well, if you use only your main character, then most of your save file will disappear for good xD
Equip your guys with long two handed weapons, i would not advise giving your AI companions spears since they can misuse them.
Do not bring a shield, it won't do anything - you will still be thrown across the room if it hits you.
Overall the beast is an extremely risky and difficult enemy to beat,(especially the master one) if you decide to go for it go in with a mindset of getting your guys killed.
not really. the beast is quite easy avoid, you can just go under his right-left swings and his left-right swings you can run past. the overhands are the easiest thing to avoid.
Meh, there are no good twohanders in novice apart from bardiche and maul. but maul is garbage against the beast because it's blunt and the bardiche is somewhat difficult to use.
shields are surprisingly effective against beasts. as long as you have good footwork and you're agressive, you can push the beast with not too much difficulty.
in general your guys will never die on adept, expert or master beasts. i always play novice, however, because it's too much fun stabbing the living ♥♥♥♥ out of him.
