I agree, though, that weapons with heads can break through blocks more often than swords, but in this case it is better for a swordsman to use his speed and interrupt an attack with that of his.
And as someone has mentioned, sword have good thrusts, which most heave weapons do not (except halberds)
If the polearm guy is swinging with enough momentum, the faster sword hit wont stop the blow. Polearm guy loses 15% health. Sword guy loses 50% health It's especially true with the overheads.
The Pole Hammer can deal with enemies at a huge range with little to no resistance, as wide swings generally land on a blind spot of the opponent, resulting in a bloody mess, even when fighting fully armored foes.
