Could we get a "Slot" or "Layer" display on equipment?
On the pop-up/item info screen.

Personally I have a hard time telling which coats replace which gambesons and which tunics overlap which doublets.
Is there any chance we could get a little 'slot' field on the item info? For bottom/mid/top layer, or just 1/2/3, so (personally) I wouldn't have to equip it and then unequip it to see which articles it replaced/didn't replace.

This would be a nice QOL change.

I agree with this, but it's actually pretty easy ultimately, so it might not be necessary. Here's a little list.

- Gambesons and any type of shirt are the bottom later
- Chain mail goes over shirts or gambesons
- Tunics and coats go over that
- Finally metal armour

A bigger problem for me is figuring out which armour pieces fit together - mainly those greaves are cuisses that are mutually exclusive. Even that is pretty easy right now, but I guess they'll be adding more armour soon which could make it harder. Even so, I'm not sure I'm really a fan of the idea of having more text in the boxes than is necessary. I think it would get annoying once you learned what goes where yourself. Maybe a toggle option?

Adding a simple paper doll/icon to info boxes wouldn't take up much room. For the most part it's logical, but it definitely gets messy with some of the older pieces of armor (particularly greaves) because it doesn't slot properly with the newer stuff.

I vote yes. This would be a nice feature.

There are also armors that override the belt. Not a critical piece of armor, but when you swap out a light cuirass for a light brigandine you wonder where it went. Quirky.
And don't forget 'waistcoats', 'jackets', 'vests', and 'doublets' are on the metal-armor layer, and the sleaved options are incomp with spaulders. And the greaves vs cuisses vs boots etc etc, you've either got to move the loadout of whomever you're shopping for to your main character and then use the dressing room/preview feature (thanks for that!) in the merchant menu to see what works and what doesn't, or just buy it and hope it fits.

I like toggle options but I probably wouldn't need/use it, even once I knew everything about all the armors I'd just leave the text there.

All true, but I deliberately talked about only the chest area because that's more simple (although true that I forgot about waistcoats and jackets and stuff), because then we have another problem; how do you go about labelling those exactly? Would it be something like 'upper armour layer: thighs, knees, lower legs, feet' for plate metal leggings? Actually, I guess from looking at it right now I think it could work, but I still think that this could create a messy UI. It's very clean right now, so I'd support it if there was a toggle option.

I still don't think text would be too obtrusive if it were a small font, but maybe one of these guys would work instead?

That would be nice.

sounds good. a short description of armour layer and then the little icon thing to show which areas are being occupied (chest and shoulders, upper legs and knees, knees and lower legs, etc)
so, for cuisses you'd have "layer 1" or "top layer" or whatever written in the info box, and on the icon the knees and upper legs would be coloured red or green or whatever.
