Arena NPC's
I'm sure Bare Mettle already has plans for more for-hire NPC's, but a few suggestions.

Weaponsmith - could maintain your arms as they dull from combat (durability mechanic?), or possibly forge socketed, rare or unique weapons.

Armorsmith - could maintain your armor and shields as they get damaged from combat, and repair damaged armor bought from merchants.

A bowyer / fletcher - maintains your ranged weapons, and makes ammo.

Chirugeon - makes rapid recovery of injury plausible.

Yeah that would be cool.

Btw its called Blacksmith and what do you mean by Chirugeon? Do you mean Surgeon?

But yeah i agree with all of these, these will be important for when weapon damage becomes a thing.

I'm with you on that, I thought I read somewhere that weapon upkeep, hunger, ect. was a no go because they thought it was tedious, and I agree.

Some lite form of durability seems likely, just to make things a touch more interesting. For instance, a blade could dull, but never to the point where it's useless. Perhaps a blacksmith could apply a specific edge. For instance, a very sharp edge that dulls more quickly (good for duels and short distance adventuring) or an edge that is still lethal and lasts much longer (good for long distance adventuring). There's no need to be concerned about traditional durability. Whatever the case, you'll be able to do this yourself with a portable whetstone. Blacksmiths have yet to be considered any use in Exanima.

Let me just point out the form that we already have. The bone sword from the sewers, it dulls as you use it, causing it's slash rating to plummet, you must use green crystals to "heal" it which just leads me (and I suspect) most people to use if for a few minutes to kill some lizard men and then tuck it safely in to their inventory forevermore because fixing it is more trouble than the sword is useful.
