Argh, maybe I did not found the last secret of Zuma :)
I did not waste time trying to set up doubles if there were already color blocks available.
Never set up doubles where they will disappear shortly behind a curve or other obstacle.
Do try to get power-ups when available (contradicting my first statement).
Do try to get the fruit when you can. I do not try to set up doubles to get the fruit, just watch for an opening.
If color blocks will disappear around a curve soon, get them.
When the heartbeat starts, I try to concentrate on the lead end. It is easier to control that way.
Otherwise, I prefer to concentrate on the tail of the row hoping to pull the front back when the colors match.
Watch for oppotunities to draw the front back with a well placed ball of the right color when the front end is getting away from you.
Watch how the level works. Some of these general rules don't help as much in some cases.
