FATAL ERROR?
So i've beening playing this game for a while and i really like it. My steam updated yesterday and ever since then everytime i try to play it i keep getting a FATAL ERROR :(.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know how to fix this? I've already tried uninstalling it.

Same thing happened to me with another game similar to Zuma and I had to contact steam and they ended up issuing a refund coz for some reason they said my system no longer supported the game

Most PopCap games broke after the update the other day. The update today didn't fix this issue. Here is a work-around until Steam decides that paying customers are imporant.

To reiterate: This IS NOT a PopCap problem. This is a Steam problem. Only Steam can fix it.

The work-around I've found that works: (thanks to Prophet)

... try to open the game in windowed mode
type "regedit" into the Windows run bar or the search bar that appears when you click on Start in Windows
then open:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SteamPopCap\PlantsVsZombies (or Zuma, or Bejeweled, or whatever game you are currently having problems with)
double click to open the ScreenMode file and change ScreenMode to 0
exit the registry editor.

This is the ONLY thing I've found that continually works. If you want to play in full screen mode, you will have to open in windowed mode after changing the registry as detailed above, then open full screen mode, play, then change back to windowed mode before exiting. You will have to do this EVERY TIME or the game will crash. If you close the game on full screen mode, the next time you play it, it will crash.

I have 4 Popcap games on my wishlist, so I'm gonna do that when once I get them, they crash.

If you read the above comment about changing the screen mode you should be able to at least play small screen until a better solution comes along. But I totally feel your pain.

the game will not even load to be able to change anything. as soon as you push to play the game a white box pops up that says fatal error

to use that trick you dont need to actually open the game
if your using a windows computer use the search bar in your desktop and type in "run"
click on that and follow the rest of the steps stated about and then you should be able to at least play small screen until a better fix comes along.
I got the error message " invalid command line parameter : - changedir

Can someone help me , its when i want to start demo in steam on windows 8.1

Same problems since a couple of weeks. It works in small screen but generates the fatal error in full screen... I have a portable HP Envy computer.

On my desktop computer it is currently fine...

I d'ont imagine what kind of upgrade could produce that....
I have windows 8.1 also on an hp Envy 17 laptop
I saw a sugestion that it would be gone with full version of zuma revenge that its only a demo issue but i am waiting to hear back if that is the case
