I've got the same error. Have you been able to fix it yet?
Jazzie Jan 25, 2013 @ 4:32pm

I found a solution. Go to the folder that the game is in and right click on it. Run compatibility and see if that runs. Problem is that you have to do compatibility every time or you lose your game.

If you select the run options when you run compatibility, windows will give you a prompt that wants to save the selections that were made to run the program more smoothly in the future. I did it and now it just prompts me to use those settings every time I play. I don't have to rerun the compatibility and my game isn't lost. Hope this helps!

I have Windows 8.1, I got into the folder, right click on CakeMania.exe and click properties. I have no Compatibility tab :'(

-Find the .exe file for cake mania 2
-Right click, properties
-Compatibility in the top tab of this window
-Compatibility mode - check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:
-Select Windows XP (service pack 3) from the drop down menu
-Press okay, right click, then run as administrator

Now it should work.

I'm running Windows 10 and I had the same issue with not having a compatibility tab, but I found a solution:

Right click on the game and select Properties
Local Files > Browse Local Files
Single-click to highlight CakeMania2 file and at the top of the window will be Manage, Application Tools
Click on Application Tools and select Troubleshoot Compatibility
Run the Troubleshooter and when it gives you the option to do so, select Recommended Settings
It will also ask you if you want to save those settings so you don't have to go through that again.

I tried all the compatibility hacks and none are working for me now. It's just crashing now with an "Application Load Error." Any ideas?

Update to my previous reply: I did get my game to load and run fine. I got the Compatibility Troubleshooter to work. I figured out that the reason why it started crashing was because I was trying to run it as an administrator. Once I stopped doing that, it started right up!

Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't own it on steam but from somewhere else and changing the compatibility does nothing. It also doesn't have admin privileges even though it asks me to allow it to change things. I'm very annoyed and frustrated.

I got my game to work after putting the game in compatibility mode for Windows 95 instead of Windows XP (service pack 3)

Download this one, for free, and nothing wrong with it. I've tried everything to get this game to run on Steam; they just don't support these anymore. This one works perfectly in Windows 11, with no annoyance.
