Need help with multiplayer

Hello!

I played XvT on the MSN gaming zone years ago and absolutely loved it. Some of my friends and I recently got the steam version of this game. So far, single player mode works fine for me. However, I'm having trouble getting things going for multiplayer. I'm used to running in dirrect IP mode, however I can't alt-tab out of the game to turn off my firewall for some reason. Assuming I get that done right, what should I do after that?

XvT was programmed to disable alt-tabbing. You can trick it by getting another application to steal window focus. Task manager or any hotkeyed application will do.

Unblock it in your firewall. The biggest hurdle is unblocking hardware firewalls too (router) and setting up port forwarding. Make sure these ports are open https://xvt.uharc.net/tech:ports

Sometimes native direct IP won't connect well. Most people use GameRanger (third party application) to host games.

Whoever is hosting should always go into the in-game config menu and turn Internet off. Modern internet easily handles LAN latency.

As Garrec said, my friends and I use Game Ranger. It sucks to have to use a 3rd party server, but I can vouche that it works and its quick and easy to setup.
