Sound Problems
Im encountering a problem whereby the music will begin to continuosly skip. Several people have stated that setting the sound so that it runs on a single core may resolve this issue. However, I'm not great with stuff like this and cant seem to figure out how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you need is a program called RunFirst, you can then use that to launch XWA using just a single core. I had the same sound problem and using the RunFirst program solved it.

Also, I run mine in Win 98 compatibility mode. This is what actually fixed it for me (running Win 10).

Running this game in Win10, I was hearing the in-game music, but no sound effects. Thanks to Fortunerunner's tip about running the game in Win 98 compatibility mode, I got the sound working properly.

So here's how I did that:

1. Navigate to where Steam has installed your games. I use a different drive for my Steam games, but if you just load games into C: you can find the folder by right-clicking your Steam icon and selecting "Open File Location".

2. Look for the folder steamapps > common > Star Wars X-Wing Alliance in that Steam game folder.

3. Right-click on the file "alliance.exe" and select "Properties".

4. In the Properties panel, click on the "Compatibility" tab. Under "Compatibility mode", click the box labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose Windows 98/Me.

5. Try running the game from Steam.

6. If you get a crash (like I did, some Direct 3D error) go back to the Compatibility tab and click the button "Run compatibility troubleshooter". It'll do some schtuff.

7. When the troubleshooter program is done, it'll ask you to test the program. I did, and it ran perfectly, sound was working. So I closed the program and clicked the troubleshooter option that said "that fixed my problem".

Anyway, hope that is helpful for people.

I have RunFirst. In Pilot-Dummy talk, how do you get the program to work?
