Direct play/0xc0000022 error DESPITE Direct Play being enabled

So, as mentioned in the title, Direct play is installed AND enabled in the control panel, yet the game won't start and Windows will keep asking me to install Direct Play.
Administrator mode won't work, neither will starting from a different exe, I'm completely lost here.

I fell into the same trap. I tried to run the game in compatibility mode but no luck. I hope someone can help. It's been 20 years since I last played and I really want to put Zaarin in his place again...or get killed in the Lusla minefield missions. Either way, I want to play.

Alright, edit : Windows updated and for some reason it fixed it, so if you can update windows, ensure Direct play IS enable, and then try that

Yep! Same thing happened to me. I had a pending windows update and when it was done the problem was fixed. I'M COMING FOR YOU ZAARIN!!!!!
