Is there an error message when the connection fails? What happens exactly? Are you both using the same OS by any chance?

We are both using windows 10. We tried initially just using direct IP... I can't quite remember the connection error but I think it just says connection has failed. Its the same with game ranger except on my friend's GOG version, he says it deletes his .exe file which is interesting. Have you gotten it to run in multiplayer?

I've played multiplayer with a couple friends in TCP/IP without game ranger and it worked, you need to find your IPV4 adress, then host, and then people who wants to join your game have to write your ip adress where needed and then it connects. I also played on gameranger once, it worked but had some lags... (i don't have a vey fast internet)

Yeah we tried that but couldn't connect.

You need to open up the win10 firewall rules to allow that. If you're not on the same local LAN, I'd also make sure your home router isn't acting as a firewall either. Here are the ports you need to open.

TCP 2300-2400
UDP 2300-2400
TCP 47624
UDP 6073

I wouldn't recommend opening this on your home router and instead use something like game ranger for WAN games.

I'll check that out, thanks.

Well you will need to forward the port in your router. Think about it. Your friend is trying to connect to you. He has your router's public ip address, so the connection goes there, but then your router has no idea what to do with the connection request. You need to tell it to forward incoming traffic on that port to your computer's local ip. Another option is to use some sort of VPN software like Hamachi and then you won't need to deal with the NAT issue.

GameRanger should work and it's easy to run (free download).
The one with the most stable connection should be the host.

I tried it myself only a few days ago and it works like a charm.
