Scanning Flowers
So can someone explain to me what exactly I'm supposed to be doing here. I've picked up the meter, I've found viable flowers, and I've initiated some sort of scan. It makes a lot of noise and nothing reacts or displays any numbers whatsoever.

Turns out the scripting can just totally break in such a way that the scanning process is able to start but not trigger the part where the flowers close. Leading to a whole lot of confusion if you didn't know that was how it was supposed to go.

So, that's cool.

This game doesn't tell you how to do anything. It's a nice change of pace, tbqh.

I'm finding the instruction just fine, but when it breaks in a way that you might not realize is broken until you see how it was meant to work it's a little frustrating.

The flower scanning is just frustrating.

Either have the flowers open and scannable or closed - not some 'not fully open and so unscannable' mode yet looking exactly the same as scannable.

Also, bonus points for having the black 'sprites' knock the scanner out of your hand who knows where, when they attack.

^ Oh god man, that happend to me. I looked around for several mins, and had to turn up brightness to max, just to find the darn thing. Lucily it didn't fly far away.

Scannable flowers appear totally flat and facing directly upwards, not at an angle.

I actually liked this because the black things have no real threat to them otherwise. It was being sideswiped and losing my tool that made me wary of them. For the rest of the game, I paid attention to my surroundings and edged away from them.

And some of the flowers are 'flatter' than others - those are the scannable ones.

I scanned the flowers, got good numbers, but when I brought them to get copied, the machine said the number was too low. The graphical feedback from the scanner is weird: the scanner's progress meter never finishes, even as the flower closes and the scanner stops.

Also it's not fun when the black thing hit me from behind, and the scanner falls under the flower and grass sprites! I think some of these puzzles could have been play-tested a little bit more..

I know the reply is a bit dated, but for others who might have this issue:

1) Look at the flower art. There are three types: a closed bud, a curved, partially open blossom, and a flat, fully-open blossom. You can only use the flat ones.
2) Aim the dot in the center of the tool exactly in the center of the flower. It sways slightly, so you have to move a bit with it.
3) If it gets too close to closing and you think you'll lose it, stop the scan. The flower will open back up and you can try again. Once you get a final number, though, it will not change if you scan it again.
4) Keep an eye (and ear) out for that black cloud. If it touches you, it'll knock the tool out of your hand, and it can be very difficult to find it again. If you do lose it, you may have to reload that section and start again.
5) Finally, once you have a flower that tests high enough, store the tool in inventory (E), then click the flower. Store it in inventory (E), and go back to the tool to collect the rest.
