I can't figure out how to use planes. Am I stupid?

You can use them on certain quests, you can realise it by the change of color, or just try to use it and nothing happens. Don't let the raining notifications fool you, they imply you cannot use planes because they have random appearances and might appear during those quests. During some of those quests, however. Watch out for enemy Anti-Aircraft guns and Aircraft units as they might shoot down yours ( even the recon units can shoot down if they SOMEHOW get behind the enemy aircraft )

Also bear in mind that for your CAS ( Close Air Support ) unit/s to attack ground units, you have to provide them vision ( either by a recon plane or a ground officer/guards infantry )

I'm currently on that mission in the Entente campaign where you have to take all those German lines of defenses on a hill. I was hoping I could use planes to dislodge the enemies. There is still two trench lines and the enemies have a lot of guns, although I destroyed their 75mm and 105mm.
