I am at the point in the game when I need to locate a mask in the hamper of dirty clothes. When I go to search, there is nothing here.

This ties in with going back to the ancient tree and encountering the wolf-like-monster-beast. I understand he challenges me to a game. There is no monster here when I go there. Much earlier in the game I encountered him here and utilised the shrunken head on him. Does this have anything to do with why he is not there the second time around? Is this going to prevent me from getting this mask?

the thing is:

I didn't throw his dirty clothes down the bathroom chute to the laundry hamper. I put them in the washer and commenced to wash them The washer keeps saying I have a long way to go before they are done. Are they going to be able to be accessed again? Are they still going to have a mask contained within them?

Hey elikos1,

The mask is not a required item for progression in the game but if you want to get it, you need to dislodge it from the Laundry Chute - it is not in the hamper until you free it - and you can free it by dropping any item into the laundry chute (located under the sink in the bathroom between your bedroom and the guest [toy filled] room).

As for the Beast From the East - you've already successfully scared him off using the Shrunken Head (and obtained the keycard based on the screenshot) so he will not return. Using the mask to scare him is simply an alternative solution to the puzzle that you solved by using the Shrunken Head.
