Did it really come out in 2003? I have looked through the entire storepage on steam and all I can find is "release date: april 17 2015".

According to wikipedia it was released in March / April 2003, just like you said.

Is it really ok to do like that? I mean are they allowed to take a 12 year old game and put it up on steam like some "new" thing?

I have seen other classic games on steam where it says something like "the classic game from ... now on steam with support for modern systems!" or "the classic game now with updated graphics etc ".

Personally I think this should not be allowed, the store page should say " Release date: 2003 , Steam release date: 2015 "

9 times out of 10 steam doesn't care about actual release dates. So they just use whatever date it was brought to steam. Though if you've been around games long enough you can kind of tell when they were made with older technology. This one practically screamed 2000ish release in it's graphics.

It's not so much as lying, as it is not giving a damn, and what's to say older looking games can still have a lot of charm i.e. Hostile water anteus rising, sacrafice, dungeon keeper 2 etc. Though this game looks just meh to me, but that's a more personal opinion then anything.

I wish I could use my CD key on steam, because I've played this game for hundreds of hours. It's an amazing game, and a must for any fan of the genre.

Probably a bit pricey for its age, but if you really like it and you don't mind coughing it up, go for it.

Not only do you get to build your casino empire by expanding your initial building to some more floors, you also get to buy new buildings and turn them into casinos, or even hotels, or even both at the same time!

You also get to control your own cheaters and bouncers, and setup your shuttle bus routes.

I only wish they would make a new version of this game.

Yes it's from 2003 and I played it a lot back then. It has its quirks but it's a lot of fun. There was also an expansion called Casino Inc: The Management which was totally impossible to find here in the US. It's not clear if the expansion is included or not. I think it's worth the $6 but only if you enjoy older games. I know I'm going to get it since my CD is long gone.

usually these old 're releases' are at least win 8 compatabile - what the point if it only works with older pc's, is it a gimmick?

No gimmick, it just doesn't work correctly on Windows 8, we will though keep looking at it.
We do the support for the title, not Steam.

I never even played this game or knew it existed. I like the art style, though, and the gameplay looks quite interesting.

Wasn't there an expansion pack for this, too? And is it included? If not, why?

Yes there was an expansion. I bought this on Steam and it isn't included as far as I can tell. I can't remember what was in the expansion though, it was a long time ago.

I believe it was called "The Management.[en.wikipedia.org]"

If they're going to sell the original of this 2003 game then it stands to reason that they could easily throw in the expansion pack, too.

With the whole windows 8, you have to remember they radically changed the background processes with Win8 compared to the previous windows. switching BIOS with UEFI or whatever it's called, and it's just a more difficult compatability issue.

It could be something as complicated as a library dependency no longer being supported, or it could be something very simple.

For example one of my favorite games is railroad tycoon 3. It says boldlface on the steam store "Won't run with vista" the ONLY reason that happens is that the game starts with an option called "Disable Hardware T&L" turned on which vista can't handle and instant crashes the game.
If you can patch or alter the game to not start with that option, the game runs perfect. That like this might be just the thing that is causing this game not to work with windows 8.

Windows 8 was never designed to be used on real computers.

It was specifically designed for tablets and, through them, to pave the way for a dedicated smartphone OS. Microsoft just puts it on computers because it's company policy to always sell the newest OS, logic be damned.

That is the very sad truth of it... kind of makes me sad, or at least wanting to switch to linux. lol
