If you are done with the level (by choice or because the oil is gone) and it's not December yet, you can stop level the sooner. You don't have to sit around and wait!
Pipes are more difficult. You venture into the ground, so canceling is not an option. You can lay lots of short pipes to avoid risk, but that will cost more money because of the 'start up'-costs. One of the many small decisions that you have to take in Turmoil.
Right now, when you're dragging a pipe, you can cancel it only by dragging it back to its starting point and then releasing. However, when you release, and it starts being drilled, there's no way back!
With that upgrade, buy a mole and click on the Diamond. This will send the mole to that exact spot, as usual. But instead of uncovering ground it will pick up the Diamond.
There is also a way to fast forward the time. This button gets introduced after a couple of levels.
you can use "x" to fast-forward the gameplay
