Awesome! We would be interested to know what you were doing before. Maybe we can improve our messaging in game to explain things better.

I have always started by hiring two dowsers, and then drilled as soon as they find oil. Then bought 2-3 horses. Started delivering oil straight away. I have rarely used tanks.
And I have at most times used 1 drilling rig for each reservoir. Havent even thought about connecting it all to one rig, and using several tanks. And when it comes to gas I havent paid much attention as it usually was impossible to get due to pipe crossing. So, your video gave me a different strategy, which I like :)

Great!
1 Rig is 'pro' though and not always the best strategy. It depends on the upgrades you have. But it was useful for the video.
Silo's (tanks) are essential if you want to maximize your profits. Good luck!

Would it be an idea (and if this has been mentioned or discussed before, please forgive me), to have an option to remove the pipe, similiar like you upgrade it ? Right click and the pipe is gone, ofcourse for a cost. Just an idea. Thanks for the brilliant game.

We've had a gameplay feature in at some point (before Early Access) where players could sell of f buildings above ground. That was not fun and didn't add anything to the experience.
What you are saying sounds a bit different: removing a pipe (at a cost) to rectify a 'bad' move possibly or for some other reason. It would be a bit different, but liekly not change the game for the better. We like the fact that players need to be careful with their decisions, like pipes and building placement.

Thanks for the informative video about gas. If have a question though:

Can gas only escape through rigs? I was under the impression that gas can also escape through the ends of pipes into the ground or into emptied oil pockets. If that was only my imagination then that's great news because it means I don't have to pay as much money for closing valves.

Gas can only escape into the air through Rigs!
So you don't have to close joints of pipe at the bottom. If you release Gas into a closed system it will just fill the system and sit there, waiting for a connection to the Factory.
You can however use Gas to boost the speed of oil coming through the pipes. If you are tapping into an oil pocket and connect that into a Gas pocket the pressure of the Gas will drive the oil out. This Gas will be lost though, as the Rig is still open.
Wow, now that I watched this I realized, that I missed the point of the game :) I considered the tanks as a buffer against low prices, not as a buffer to sell large amounts when the price is boosted via gas. hence I rarely use tanks. Or gas. And I found the prices like 40.000 to connect to left/right inc ridiculous, because it just wasn't worth it. The next mistake was to release the gas from one field each, and not wait until the end of the round to drive the prices up into unknown regions.

You can watch me play on my channel, but it's in german only. Still might give you an idea about my thought processes.

One thing that gave me the impression that I was playing well: I was doing good in the auctions, and still had way more money that the NPCs. So there was no need for me to improve.

Glad the videos helped you!

From what I understand, currently the black filling (and correspondingly the bubbles) show the FLOW of oil (or gas) in a pipe. If you close valves, then the black goes away because the flow stops, but actually the oil is still there - will reappear when the valves is opened again. But since the stationary oil is invisible there is a chance that you could forget about it and although it is probably not a lot of oil, you could still miss out on the "Sold all oil" bonus, right?

So, could you change the animation/graphics so that the black filling or bubbles are shown in a pipe even if they aren't moving?

The animations indeed show the flow of the oil. If you close a valve the oil will NOT remain in the pipe. Think of it as the oil dropping down back into the pocket again. So there is no invicible oil, it's just not in the pipes anymore.
We tested and it not possible to miss out on the bonusses this way.

We'll think about this, as maybe it's not clear enough. But if we would now draw the black in the pipe it would not match the actual situation. Empty pipes, although maybe misleading, do represent what the player is dealing with.

The how do you explain this?

Oh you mean that! ;) That's an animation bug probably. Didn't know that was there. It's not actual oil though, so you won't miss out on the bonusses.
We'll take a look. Thanks for the video upload. That helps a lot.
