Note: if you start your game by inviting friends, you can set the timer length, BUT at least when I played in the playtest there was no way to allow randos to join the open spots, which I would really like. But I haven't checked in on official multiplayer release yet.
You'll have to send friend requests in game to link up, then you can play custom matches.
I really think custom public games should be a thing, though. Let the community settle in on their own preferences for game length.
Edit: It occurs to me that there are situations where even 36 hours would be pushing it. I think 48 hours makes sense, but only after the first turn is done.
Being that I have tried 3 games and NONE of them have gotten past the 1st turn, I have no idea how long a multiplayer game played at a swift pace should take to complete.
Edit: The devs have addressed the issue and inactive players are being removed from the game if they don't do their first turn. Hooray!
