Turmoil

So i'm 14 million in debt in-game.
Things were going great at first. I bought about 18% of the mayor's stock and was frequently #1 in income round after round. (Although, curiously, the cpu always seems to magically end up with more money than me.) I don't know what happened but a couple bad rounds completely wrecked my winning season.

A part of me is tempted to see just how deep in the hole I can get, but i'm not interested in clicking down this much debt at a rate of 500 per click. (Just did the math-- it'd take 28000 clicks, nahh i'm out.) Gamious guys, two suggestions, one an option for manually entering how much we want to borrow or repay. Secondly, an option for filing bankruptcy if we're in debt 3 rounds in a row, the penalty being maybe sitting out 3 yrs worth of rounds.

We have a saying here: Beware. Borrowing money costs money!

We are working on a Game Over state after 3 years of debt. We didn't envision players borrowing that much!

So basically, he broke the game by being so bad at it?
Storm0267 Mar 14, 2017 @ 6:15pm
speaking of the game over state, it should be possible for a com player to go bankrupt too

I'm actually pretty good at it, if I must say. The problem is, you usually have to overbid for stock because you never know when cpu is going to swipe it from under you. I had just had a monster score of like 30k pure profit. I dropped 14 of that on stock. I was banking on my next plot of land being a big score but it turned out to be a bust. I also ended up hitting a nat. gas vein that I thought was oil, while woefully underprepared wagon wise to accommodate it and and, well, a few excessive spill fees later I found myself blindsided with an almost 30k loss. Next round I did great, extracted every drop of oil but barely cleared 8k.

60k in debt now, I borrowed from the bank, at a rate of like 300% interest, and though my next score was pretty huge, over 30k, it barely put a dent in the over 180K I now owed. I borrowed more money to pay that down, already cognizant I was pretty much dead in the water at this point, but just morbidly curious how bad things could get. A 1000% + interest rate is how bad and, well, once the round was over my good friend Will had a 14 million dollar debt for me.

Fun game, though. Wasnt sure what to expect, picked this up on Humble Bundle and I really like it. Will definitely be checking out whatever you guys release in the future.

I mean I know it'd hardly be a drop in the ocean, but sell some diamonds? I can't figure out what else they're used for so it might help in future before you end up in debt to begin with?

Lol, good read!
Try again with this knowledge. You'll do much better.

You can use diamonds in-level and extend the time you have to sell oil. This can be a game changer.
You can also give your diamonds to Anthony (in the Saloon). He will then point you to one of the better plots available. Use this in the beginning of a new area for max effect.

Cheers for replying. I did notice after my comment those other two uses for diamonds, but I got lucky (or dumb) and didn't use them for either in my first play through. Will try again though, as I want 100% shares (no idea how it's possible, but I'll manage somehow...probably before there's a bankruptcy game over patch ;) )

Good luck!

The main problem with this is that at a certain point you can not get out of the debts anymore, no matter how good you play. I guess I have to restart the campaign.

I say you guys should add a game over screen for people who get too far into debt. It's kinda anticlimactic to just ignobly quit. I'm sure at the time this game is set, 14 million was equal to hundreds of millions today. I fully expect to get a visit from Daniel Plainview's goon squad soon. There should be a game over screen with burly men with rotted teeth holding blackjacks and shovels, saying ominously, "We've come to collect."

Speaking of Mr. Plainview, if you don't shout DRAAAAIIIIIINNNAAGGGEEEEE! every time you completely clear out a stage of oil, you're doing it wrong.

Right now that is not part of the game. NPC's don't borrow money. They do however lose money sometimes.

so it should be possilble if they go negative they go bankrupt. now that would be cool.
