Because the game got hammered with negative reviews for many of the things that should be worked out by this stage of development. Flight handling and rubber-banding were among the two biggest complaints. By removing the game from Steam and making it a Brightlocker download the devs can obfuscate negative feedback behind a backer paywall.

There is no paywall at all, the game is delisted and can't be bought anywhere right now. We are focusing on finishing it - and decided that we wanted to go DARK on Single player so it would be a surprise and get more of a launch.

Also, rubber banding? Really? I don't recall much on that as we dev play on Friday with people who have it, and we have players in Finland, Germany, the USA and Australia all playing in the same match with ZERO rubber banding.

As for negative feedback - in Early Access you have about a year to get the game done before fans become impatient (rightfully so) we took too long and people were getting grouchy - and we had decided that in order to speed up the process, it was best to delist it...rather than being judged for a game that was 50% done....so that when we come back - a few months people will be able to judge it based upon the full game, in particular single player, which has a much larger player desire base, than multiplayer, which is where we started.

So, yeah, that was our mistake, too early we released on EA, and we were MP focused - you can blame that directly on me......so we took the appropriate steps to fix it.....and hopeflly folks will like what we do....

In the meantime, you can still play the game as it is....and you can play other cool Six Dof games too - we are all working to bring an entire GENRE back from the dead - so that the younger generation will learn to love it as us older folks did.....

Thanks for your time and patience....we are getting there, and I think you will like it.

No you will not pay again you own the game and when the final release is out you will get the full release because you have already paid for it. You can not get the game anywhere now untill full release you are lucky that you have it. :)

Ah ok thank you.

Not to mention the price will be a lot higher for a full AAA game.

:)

So, if you bought it already you scored a good deal - which is kind of our thanks for supporting an unfinished product....

Thanks.

Is there any way to get an updated EA version from the one I got when I supported you guys on STEAM?

Unfortunately not until release. You can play the EA game still, but we are a long way in the game today - there will be a lot of stuff coming up about it....music, actors, story etc....that we think you will like.

Thanks for your patience.

Take it from this long time software developer of over 40 years:

The WAIT will be worth it.

A RUSHED Project is a Project that will require a ton of patches and possibly is doomed to failure in the long run.

I'll patiently wait for the team to do the job RIGHT the first time.

Realize also that you cannot test every possible hardware that people will have... there will be patches but patience on our part will cause less frustration for the team developing a great game in the Descent Series.

Thank you Wingman for your insights.
