Hosting your own dedicated server
Hosting your own Mean Greens server is a very simple process. Here's what you need to do.

Before you begin
Make sure Steam is not running on the machine you are planning on running the server.

You can also run multiple instances of the server on a single machine, each instance uses about 600mb of ram

Please note that if you are hosting more than one instance on a machine you will need to change the port number that's being used in the batch file.

Also if you are on a home network make sure that your firewall is not blocking the ports.

Starting your server
Navigate to your install directory. By default it will look something like this: Steam\steamapps\common\The Mean Greens - Plastic Warfare\

In this install directory there's a folder called MeanGreensUserServer.

Inside this folder you fill see a batch file called HostServer.bat if you right click on this file and click EDIT you will be able to adjust the name of your hosted server.

Simply look for the text that reads
-ServerName="User Server"

Change the text that's inside the quotations, save and exit.

Then simply run the batch file and you're server will now be playable!

If you would like to increase your player count, simply add the tag

-MaxPlayers=40

If you would like to password protect your dedicate server add this tag

-ServerPassword="Password Goes Here"

Enjoy, and thanks for playing The Mean Greens

Anybody know the command to remove bots from dedicated server?
sorry I missed this message, I believe it's adding -nobots to the command line

I don't have the folder that the server is in. It's missing from my game folder. Can someone forward it or something?

Did you ever add Linux support?

I am trying to get it running, but without success. I have it hosted on a dedicated server and the server seems to start. On the client side (another dedicated PC on the same LAN, no firewalls in between or anything), i can see the server in Steam (View -> Servers). It does show up with the correct name and player settings.
When I try to join though, i get the message "Join Failed."

Any idea on how to fix this?

hmm that's a weird one, if it's showing up on the server list I'm guessing there's something with the network that's preventing the connection (anti-virus or something). Is it showing up in the in game server list? or just Steam?

It is only showing in steam, not the server list. note: it is not reachable via internet, it is LAN only.
It is directly connected via LAN, no firewall in between. I can also deactivate host firewall, same result.

is the server machine connecting to steam via the same steam account?
elnino 30 MAR 2022 a las 10:54
Yes, it is using the same steam account. Is that the problem maybe?
Jamie - Virtual Basement  [desarrollador] 31 MAR 2022 a las 5:31
that is the problem

I still have the same issue, it does not work in LAN. In your manual it states that steam should not be running on the machine, so why is there a steam account linked?

We just tried it with another steam account which also has the game, same issue.

The setup is as simple as it gets. One server with the MeanGreensUserServer, running HostServer.bat:
themeangreensserver.exe ServerLobby -server -log -ServerName="Server" -Port=7778 -QueryPort=27015 -MaxPlayers=32 -nobots

Then I see the Server on the Client machine in Steam -> Servers -> LAN. When I click join, the game starts but I get a "Join Failed" message.

Both machines are connected on the same switch, no firewalls, no host firewalls. I just tried making a server from within the game (with the 10 player limit), that worked fine. Friends can join. So I can rule a network issue.

We would really like to play this game with a few (more than 10) friends at a LAN party.

Is there perhaps an Anti-Virus software blocking connections?

Hello there !

Sorry to bother you, but I did try to create my own server. But in files, I do not find the "Hostserver.bat". May I create one ? If yes, what should be put inside ?

Thanks sir :)
