Yooka-Laylee
Cautiously optimistic for the enhanced remastered remake
Fool me once shame on me, but fool me twice Playtonic? :playtonic:

But in all seriousness as someone who is a huge fan of Rare's classic collectathon titles and as someone who also backed the original Kickstarter only to inevitability be disappointed by the game that was delivered; I really am hoping they take their time with this remake.

The original version of Yooka-Laylee that released years ago ultimately felt empty, rushed and like there wasn't really much to do. Noticed a lot of the worlds would often recycle the same previously used characters when it came to handing out the tasks to complete to get pagies across the various worlds. Also none of these new characters (with the exception of Trowzer) really felt as fleshed out or as lively as those that were previously found in YL's much older predecessors (BK or Tooie.)

I've spent countless hours playing through the older titles, but have yet to complete YK once :\

That all being said, still super excited for the remake and the eventual sequel. :)

Also have spent more than I'd care to admit acquiring rare Rare store posters or signed Rareware memorabilia.

Below are the various posters and or signed Artwork that I have scrounged together over the years. →

I completed the game back then and I agree. I struggled towards the end to finish it due to being kind of lackluster. Gameplay was/is a bit rough and "feeling empty here and there" describes it really good. The remaster is a good chance to give the game and world the attention it deserves. I would have preferred a sequel though. We'll see. Perhaps this will rise some attention for people to get involved so a real sequel can be developed.

My main gripes with this game was not just how empty a lot of the worlds felt, but also how it didn't really take any notes from either of the N64 Banjo games to understand why they worked as well as they did, unlike other spiritual successors like Bug Fables, Freedom Planet or Stardew Valley that seek to fix as many flaws with their inspiration as possible while doing their own thing. :rarebutterfly:

Banjo-Tooie had massive levels much like this game did; it also had warp pads that allowed much quicker access to key areas of the levels, which Yooka-Laylee never brought back but could've easily benefit from. The lack of fast travel extends to the HUB area as well, which even the first game had with the cauldrons in Gruntilda's Lair. Every single Dr. Puzz transformation I found less enjoyable than the termite from Banjo 1. :googly:

These are just a few examples of what I mean by this.

I hope there is a discount for purchasing the remake if you backed the Kickstarter.
