Report a translation problem
1. Pull back on the joystick (or hold the Down key) to slide slower.
2. Transform and fly up the ramp.
If you're having a hard time finding other quills, equip the Hunter tonic.

It can be quite tricky for larger length ramps, if you have problems, just come back when you have the flight move :P Fly to top of ramp, easy :)
But yeah I had that thought when I was trying to do the flying ring pagie at the top of the tower in the first level. I would miss a jump and fall, but I wouldn't die so I'd be at the very bottom and have to walk all the way back up. At least until I realized I could just kill myself and then I'd teleport back to the last door I went through. That was starting to piss me off (falling down, having to reset, then sit through the stupid pagie's dialogue everytime) so I understand what you're saying
