Yooka-Laylee
Hurdle Hijinx Horribly Broken
If you bump into something from the side, you can't switch lanes for an extended period of time. If you fall behind and get picked up, the game will forget how to put you down and you'll end up just floating along for a long period of time. Switching lanes has too long of a cooldown before you can do it again. Sometimes you'll just get stuck behind a poker chip and can't switch lanes.

Anyways, I've been trying to complete this mini-game for a while, but it seems impossible. Let alone to do it twice with a high score. :(

I've had the same issues, not to mention the length of it and the fact that if you roll ahead, you very quickly lose the ground to made up, which makes no sense.

Haven't even beat it once, let alone the high score. It's really not well thought out it seems
It is a terribly incomplete and broken minigame with two many issues to get into, one of the most damning being the arches which obscure your vision in a particularly congested area resulting in 9/10 taking damage and falling behind.

Honestly, this minigame takes longer to complete than the entire casino!

Some tips:

If you die, you can spawn faster by pressing A.

Always stay ahead, but only roll to stay ahead on wide open lanes. Any other time is useless because you'll hit obstacles, fall behind, and lose quills.

Dont go for every single quill especially if one is in a tight spot. As the track progresses the obstacles become more and it's not worth losing something like 3000 quills for hitting a poker chip just because of a single gold quill. Additionally, you might fall behind off the screen and then take double/triple quill loss. Going for the easy ones and not taking damage can get you a good score.

Towards the end, you'll be walking on stacks of dice. BE CAREFUL. Don't drop inbetween the stacks for every quill because you'll hit the "dice wall" fall behind, and lose everything. Make it a point to keep ahead of the screen rather than collecting quills.

And the end, you can collect all the white quills by quickly flickering from lane to lane and not just collecting from one land. There are no obstacles so this is easy to get and can beef up your total a little.

Other than that, this minigame is broken so it requires quick reaction and thinking on your part.

Good luck.

I've had no issues with this. "A" puts you back on the track, are you seriously waiting for it to drop you? Sounds like you're having a hard time getting through it for sure, but I can assure you, there's no errors with the mini-game.

Wow. Just wow.

IMO the main problem is how easy it is to get punished up to 4 times for a single mistake (losing a life, dropping quills, getting pushed back so you can't catch up in time and then losing even more points for falling behind). If you mash the roll button trying to catch up you might even accidentally trigger your respawn early, get stuck on ANOTHER obstacle and lose even more.

Coupled with the delay to jumping and rolling where you're still vulnerable for a while after starting the action, it's very easy to lose more than half your score near the end making it impossible to do a comeback even with the 3x1800 points quills right before the goal. The delay between starting a jump/roll and the time you're actually invincible is long enough that it makes both these actions feel unresponsive, too.

Yes you can spawn faster, but I find it better to wait for a good spot to drop, so you don't land in front of a wall of enemies, not to mention it allows you to delay getting hit by anything for at least a small portion of the level. But it will at some point drop you, not sure on the exact amount of time you have in that respawn state.

I don't think OP knew that you could press A to spawn at any point you want. I think he just waited for yooka to spawn.

No, I knew you could, and I would press A, but nothing would happen.
This damn minigame, I do not know how people have managed to beat it in a couple tries, it's complete and utter bs (along with beebop and Up 'n Nova for their own reasons), seriously getting penalized twice once if you accidentally hit a guy and then again because you can't recover in time and fall off the screen. the amount it penalizes you for is a joke and apparently you have to do this without dying once, die anywhere that isn't roughly the beginning and you are screwed for points.

Seriously the only pagies I don't have are the World 3,4,5 minigames, it's a damn joke.
You can't mess up once - the longer you are motionless after getting hit the more points you lose. It's a pain but i managed to get the high-score pagie after a fair few attempts. Keep trying eventually you'll get it, but yes it was a painful experience.
I don't know how, but I made record on my 2nd total attempt with only 1 "damage". World 4 mini game was harder for me.
Just remember to use directions a lot. Seems trivial, but it really helps a lot. And don't get angry and lose concentration if you take 1-2 damages. I think you can still make record if you get 3 hits.
agree, that is the only REX arcade that I'm having problems with for the pagie. Also, not looking forward to playing it twice to get both pagie, they should make it where if you beat the high score the first time around you should get both pagies instead of one.
wait until the 5th world arcade
What's with the inconsistency with the controls? Sometimes the moving is so unresponsive, pressing left or right 5 times still doesn't move me. It's like playing russian roulette every time I press my movement key. It's definitely not an issue with my keyboard. And before people say "Well it's your fault you're using a keyboard." Sorry for expecting a PC game to have good PC controls.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hurdle Hijinks is the 4th World's mini-game. Perhaps you're thinking about World 5's mini-game Up n' Nova. Which is basically a Flappy Bird mini game.

Edit: Just noticing I'm posted in a necro'd topic. My bad.
