Should I get this or should I play Banjo Kazooie first?

I have never played any of the Banjo games, and seeing the hype over this makes me feel like I really missed out on them.

All of the above. You can't go wrong. Unless you just don't like the fundamental gameplay elements. So games like Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie & Conker's Bad Fur Day are definitely a recommend before spending almost $50 on this (depending on your region.)
