Yooka-Laylee

I hate that I don't like it.
I really wanted to like this, been following it since the kickstarter was announced. I've wanted a game similar to the original Banjo Kazooie for years however this game misses the ball on why Banjo was so good. The first Banjo was so beautifully simplistic and confident in everything it had within it. This game feels more like pandering than real commitment. I am not trying to dog on the developers I know they put all their heart and soul into this for hours and hours on end I am just saying they didn't succeed. It's an overcomplicated mess and even though Banjo Tooie was an overcomplicated mess at least it had interesting characters to back it all up. This game drops the ball on almost every aspect that I loved from the original game.

I'm still dumbfounded as to why they went with Unity of all engines. Why they had to publicly announce they were removing Jontron? (I didn't even know he was in the game until they announced his removal) or even why DOES EVERY SPECIAL MOVE DRAIN ENERGY? I mean come on that has to be the most antithetical thing to have in a game like this and it was the nail in the coffin for me.

I love the designs and the music I think the first world is quite charming but everything I've seen after that does not impress me. Honestly at this point I just wish Rare would release the Rare Replay on PC so I can play Banjo Kazooie without emulating it or having to buy an Xbox One/360. Anyways feel free to bash my opinion but I had to vent and once this up I have said everything I needed to say.

I am in the minority here... I never really got into Banjo but I like this game
Who knows, maybe dropping JonTron was also intended as press bait. Never know with people nowadays. As they say, Hell is other people. As for the game itself? It's a competent Banjo clone. Sure, it's missing *some* bells & whistles, but Playtonic has already said they're going to support the game post-release (as if that's a new thing nowadays? lol.) So who knows what the future holds. It's far too early to be casting stones.

I'm a huge Banjo fan, and I'm in love with this game. Maybe you didn't like Banjo as much as you think you did. Yooka controls like a dream and the camera isn't perfect, but it's lightyears better than the old N64 games.

I'm kinda the same way. I love 3D platformers, but I never even heard of B&K as a kid and when I tried playing it recently, I couldn't get into it. This game, however, I've already put a few hours in.

Wow. This matches videogamedunkie's opinions on this game.

I really do not expect people with blue hair to be playing that sort of 4d chess. I could be sadly mistaken though.

Same here. I didn't own a N64 but was really into Spyro, Crash and Jak&Dax. I think the writing and characters are entertaining enough and the controls are fluid and responsive. Unity engine is fine. I even enjoyed the Kartos Karting minigame, beat the top time on my second try.

I have tried to make a wizard joke to you two times now and each time the thread has been deleted before you could respond. So this time I'm not going to make a wizard joke.:)

Idiots who don't understand game development. Unity has a free version which means any wannabe gamedev can make some trash with little knowledge of what they're doing, by hacking together store assets.
it's the same reason people call Blender trash, because most Blender users are new to 3D and make trash with it.
Sure, unity may not be able to stand up to unreal or frostbite, but very few develops utilise the features of those engines that unity can't compete with. And then those features are largely visual fidelity -nothing to do with how well made a game is.

Greenlight asset flippers have given unity a bad name. I'm curious as to what it is about unity specifically that makes this a bad game.
