I like Kain FAR more than the idiots at Polygon or Jim Sterling. He says he hated the game. :(

It sounds like JonTron did his fans a favor by turning them off from the game. Also, I can't believe they removed him babbling.... Apparently his babbling was enough to trigger some people.

Actions speak louder than words. While he says, "I wish them the best of luck", that's him saving face. His removal sparked hundreds of people demanding refunds and chargebacks. So yeah, maybe it wasn't JonTron who turned off consumers, it was Playtonic by removing him.

He's barely even played the game. Hell, he literally says "I haven't played as far as reviewers have. I'm not reviewing this game. This is my judgment after a little over an hour of gameplay. You may call that premature. I don't really care."

It also seems he's not familiar with the Banjo-Kazooie games at all and was expecting a different game altogether. It would have taken him less than a minute to do some research on that. I'm not taking a stance on this game, but apart from the very minor gameplay analysis, there's not a lot of substance to that video.


Edit: looking at his other videos, this guy seems like he doesn't enjoy video games or life in general a whole lot. He seems genuinely depressed.

He didn't say he only played an hour. He literally said he wouldn't play it any more. As in, it's so bad that he can't be bothered to play past an hour.

Erik Kain isn't depressed. He's one of the few reviewers/games media that many gamers actually trust. When most other reviewers like Polygon and Kotaku care only about shoving agendas and blowing sunshine up the ass of AAA companies, Kain and TotalBiscuit are very pro-consumer.

I assume you're talking about Jim Sterling? LOL He's an idiot. I took his opinion with a grain of salt. As I do with Polygon. I trust Erik Kain far more than those people. They claim they've fixed the camera... and the voices don't bother me (although it's funny to think that JonTron babbling a little bit triggered NeoGAF enough to bully Playtonic into removing him) so I'm still on the fence.

Not really sure who this Mitch Wallace is. He literally been at Forbes for 2 weeks and has 6 articles to date LOL I dunno why they published his review as their "official" review (if they even did) and not Erik Kain who has been at Forbes for 6 years.

Back on topic, seems to me some reviewers just decided this type of game isn't to their taste from the start. I have no doubt a lot of people are going to have A LOT of fun with Yooka LAylee!

I really liked the GameXplain's video about it. I thought it was fair. Now, I don't know if people consider them to be trustworthy or not.
The reviewers I like are people like PBG, Brutalmoose, SpaceHamster, etc. The Completionist, someone I really like, said he loved the game and it felt exactly like Banjo-Kazooie.
So, it got me excited and I really feel like I'm gonna like it.
However, I can understand that it's not some people's cup of tea.
I feel like it was really made to be exactly like an old Rare N64 game, not to modernized the formula.
So this is what I'm expecting. :)

Fair enough. I only watched the first minute or so of it, but decided it was garbage.

It should be a requirement to play the entire game from start to finish, blind.
And have a minimum of at least 30 years of gaming experience to even be allowed to open your mouth and spew an opinion on the subject matter.

Maybe I should become a 'reviewer' and cash in on all that gross incompetence of the majority of the population.

There's a difference between simply not playing the game for an hour due to laziness and rushing out a review, and in being SO turned off by the game that you don't play any more than that. That's what I was referencing. Didn't think I'd have to explain it.

He's either depressed or an extreme cynic. All the videos I skimmed through are him complaining about inane stuff while looking like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

Well, Forbes has kept him around for over 6 years. So he's obviously doing SOMETHING right...

Just because other review/media sites are bad doesn't mean he's automatically good by proxy. From what I've seen of him so far he doesn't do any research and is content in making snap judgments. Not exactly a good impression.

Nobody said he was good by proxy. In the past, though, he's done a good job researching/playing titles and giving them fair reviews. Amazing that you "skim a few videos" and have made a judgement on not only his mental health, but his ability as a reviewer.... all of this AFTER criticizing him for not spending enough time on something before making a judgement.

No, see, he's built up my trust over the course of 6 years as a game journalist of which I've followed him for 3. And I've noted that most of the time, we share a similar taste in games. Again, you trust his premature judgment (by his own admission) and say you like him, but you don't like it when I do the same thing he does. That's quite the double standard. I also like how you gloss over the very clear fact that he isn't familiar with the Banjo-Kazooie games, since he's surprised by the character speech noises and the fact that they were even greenlit. He made no effort at all. He didn't even take a second to look up a YouTube video or something for the games Yooka-Laylee is the spiritual successor to.

I trust his "premature judgement" because, as I said, I've watched/read him for several years and we share similar tastes in games. Pointing out that you're a laughable complete hypocrite has nothing to do with me liking him nor why I like him. Hope that helps. :)
