Game freezes on black screen with cursor after starting the game

I installed the game, ran it and succesfully played a few levels. Even got 3 achievements. The day after I'm starting the game again and after godzilla walks by in the loading screen when starting the game, the menu is supposed to appear. But instead of menu I get a black screen with my mouse being frozen into place. I have to start the Task Manager and kill the game blindly because all I can see is the black screen of the game.

I tried installing number 4 from the Labours of Hercules series and got the exact same problem, except that I couldn't even play a few levels.

Anybody else got the same problem, and/or perhaps a solution?
I tried:
- Compatibility modes
- Rebooting PC
- Verifying file integrity

Anything else for me to try?

Workaround: Wait for like 2 minutes, then the title screen will appear.

However, you won't be able to see the complete intros anymore...
