Chaos Engine Commander Missions

so far these have been the ONLY missions I ended up failing. What were the right choices to complete these missions? I selected the main front line combat to do the challenge of the enemy commander, and the Baron to go on the suicide mission against the engine itself as he seemed likely to stand up best against the occult enemies and had some moderate experience with traps.

Result.... the fighter failed and was injured, the baron failed and was killed. Not exactly what I was hoping for.

The suicide mission is exactly that: suicide. Nobody comes back from it alive.

Did you try to upgrade your resistance level and resistance soldiers-number to the max, and to equip your commander with proper relics?

Yes, everything was maxed as it could be.
