Single player ?
Hi devs, in Steam description i read both single player and co-op, but watching the trailers i see 2 players who help each other, so my question is, if i want to play this game alone, who will control other one ? AI ? So can i complete the whole game alone ? Thanks.

In the single player you toggle between the 2 characters, so you play both of them.

Hi Ron!
As Slacker already said, in the single player you toggle between the 2 characters. But as you brought it up, we maybe should make that clearer for people on the store page!

Thanks for your input :)

Here's a LP from someone playing the singleplayer: https://youtu.be/qaH02WfJLaU
I hope this helps!

Well the game was initially made for a great co-op experience, but we still tried to make the best in singleplayer, because we didn't want to sell a game to people that they can't play alone!

And I think we managed to make it work in singleplayer too, although it's not as great as in co-op obviously.

God bless you, if only all devs would think the same, today seems that every game must be played coop only and devs often think that every player has a list full of friends who own their same games to play together, now, i've some frieinds but that does not means they always play the same games i like and i absolutely hate to play coop with random players who make you pass a very bad time, personally i think everygame should have single player and THEN have also the option for a multiplayer coop mode, to not mention the coop achievements that should be all banned in every game, an achievement should be single player ONLY oriented, for those who can only play alone and then if you want have fun with friends you can play multiplayer on your favorite game, but this is another discussion i not want to open here but that i liked to mention to make people meditate :)

Thanks for your answer, it's nice to hear people appreciate what we did. Coming from a players point of view, that was exactly what we intended to do with the singleplayer. The thing is, and that is what most people will never know (which I understand) is that Shift Happens has been a project that we (Klonk, a former team of 10 students) made out of university.

Our intention back then was totally not "market oriented" or anything like it. We just wanted to make a great CO-OP game, because we thought "man, there are so many games that just "fake" co-op. And those games just feel like singleplayer games, that can be played ALONGSIDE each other, but actually are meaningless when played together. You never really truly need each other to finish the level. So we (probably 4 years ago) made a game that was meant to be played together. This game was called Mercury Shift (http://www.kongregate.com/games/KlonkGames/mercury-shift) and we uploaded it on kongregate. Looking at it now, this game really has a lot of issues, but it at least served as a good "prototype" for what we wanted: A true coop game.

However, we, as the greenhorn students we were, never thought about a singleplayer until we finished studies and thought about forming our own company to make great games. We still liked the idea of Mercury Shift and then tried to make a singleplayer aswell, for the reasons I (and you) mentioned. However, since the initial design has always had co-op in mind, the singleplayer is not as great.

We also thought about all the options we had, like an AI etc. but we thought it was the best to make it simple (developing wise) to make people switch characters. The downside of this is a steep learning curve. Once people get to used to it tho, it really is crazy cool to navigate two characters almost at once (if you get really good at it.)

I hope people will not only see the bad part of the singleplayer and also like a bit of a challenge.

Anways, thanks again for your kind words, it's really balm for our souls :)

Many actual BIG Software Houses are focused mainly on gaining money and i can't blame them for that because money is what make this world run but, sometime these companies, making great games for sure, miss an important point that is the point of view of a poor alone single player who can't or not want play coop games but that he wants all the rights and attentions a person who spent money buying a game deserves...
Often these companies satisfy what "the most" players demand today but forget to satisfy the minority portion of players who would like something a little different and not always like modern games in the totality as the market demands they should be crafted...
Being you all, as i think to understand, an old group of friends, you're in a very special position and can see the things from a better prospective, you've the chance to create games according what YOU want to create in the hope to surprise people with something that could be not usual and not mandatory by the market.
I wish you all to keep your identity and create, in future, many beautiful games, earning also some money because that's a good thing, but never being too much slaves from that and keeping your creativity high and remaining an independent company.

Thank you a lot, and keep your thumbs pressed! I hope were on the best way to achieve that freedom! Certainly, people like you encourage us and actually its a big deal, because sometimes developping games is really tough and you only see the downsides and the worst parts of your game.

Thank you :)
