Community Patch Project
For any new players out there:

There is now a community patch mod that fixes two of the most glaring bugs this game had for over 21 years: The Dagda Act 2 crash bug and the Wolf's Lair progression bug.

You can read more about it here:
https://i-war2.com/news/181-dagda-and-wolf%E2%80%99s-lair-bugs-fixed-after-21-years

I highly recommend installing this mod if you want to play through the whole game.

Thank you!

awesome!
After a few freezes, I had to play High Noon (act 2, mission 4) by going back to the base after every interaction in case it crashed so it wouldn't start over, but the Dagda thing is totally screwed and I was about to give up on the game, thank you!

If we could just get this game to work natively on the Steam Deck that would be amazing. Seems the game suffers from the much reported 'insert CD' issue which prevents the single player campaign from being launched. I've been unable to emulate a CD drive on the Steam Deck which may have fixed the issue. From what I've read this is supposed to be possible with 'protontricks' which I've tried; unfortunately the game simply isn't listed when launching protontricks despite having it installed and launchable on Steam Deck. Perhaps there is some CLI/Konsole magic that could fix protontricks using the games icon ID but I gave up at this point.

I have been able to get it to work using the Steam Deck remote play feature at least but it does require launching the Steam PC client as admin. For some reason in Windows the IWar2 executables all want to run with admin privileges. If you revoke the 'run as admin' privileges from the games executables, upon next launch of the game the 'run as admin' privileges are simply restored again... Anyway, if the Steam PC client performing the remote play streaming to the Steam Deck isn't also running as admin, then no control input is passed from the Steam Deck to the game (which always wants to run as admin).

Anyway, fantastic work on the patch! I'm finally going to try and beat this great game!

(my last attempt was many years ago and I couldn't progress the campaign beyond a certain point due to a bug...)

Ermm... would it be redundant to point out that: this game is 21 years old at this point and its developer has gone belly up back in 2004 while its parent company got liquidated.

Sure some very smart fellows of the fanbase for this game managed to get into the mission source files back in october but I doubt that would make them capable of making this game to run natively on steam deck.

Actually it already runs natively on the Steam Deck, it's just that the game expects there to be a CD drive. So you're right, there's no developer coming to the rescue Ferro but changes to Proton might fix this or even a change to protontricks may fix this issue. As mentioned, it might even be possible right now to get protontricks to work with the game but I'm not knowledgeable enough to mess around with the Konsole to figure it out. So I'm just putting it out there for anyone who might know.

After having this game for years, and giving up having got stuck pre-patch, I have finally finished this game! Thanks again for the patch.

Good to hear! I notified the devs in our Discord, they'll probably like your feedback :)

This fills me with such joy. Having spent so long looking through the source code and pulling our collective hairs out trying to get these missions to work again, I'm glad people are using our patch and finishing the game because of it.
