So I have absolutley no idea what's going on... (spoilers obviously)
The game started off fine: I'm a security guard with night terrors. I get that. I went through the first two nights fairly normally. Got a letter from eve telling her to meet me in the relaxation room, which I never found, but I fully explored the apartments as much as I could. I listened to the handful of tapes I collected and gleaned a little bit more (Sounded like AI gon horribly wrong).

Then I went outside, found Buck's car and tried interacting with it. After that, ♥♥♥♥ just hit the proverbial fan, in the following order:

1. Get into head-on collision with gangsters, who then jump out and grab me.

2. Wake up in night terror apartment from the beginning of the game, find newspaper asking for security guards.

3. Wake up again on the floor of the facility with gangsters telling me not to move a muscle.

4. Screen goes black, gangsters dissappear along with horrible screaming.

5. Come across Eve, ask her about something that happened that I personally have no recollection of. She grabs me.

6. Wake up again in another apartment. Eve is now apparently my "wife" She tells me not to go into the storage. I grab some heavy case from the bedroom, smash the mirror and take the shard. I used it on myself. Apparently stabbing yourself is perfectly normal. Eve drags me to some medical room, calls me silly, and I'm back to normal.

7. I'm not 100% sure what happened next but Eve started chasing me out of a room that had "Observation In Progress" and I started running, ran through a door and lost her. Got attacked by some cyborg human thingy which kicked my leg and made me limp.

At this point I'm not sure what's happening anymore. I'm assuming this game is not about exploring the depths of some mysterious research facility, but rather some "battle in the center of the mind" of Tom dealing with his nightmares and night terrors.

TL:DR what the hell is going on.

You can play this game in a variety of ways, and that is usually the one that is reserved for later playthroughs! Basically, yes, in this way it gets very intense very fast.

The game is meant to be played multiple times in order to understand the story and see all the branching paths. Play the game again when you finish, this time without breaking out with Bucks car and you'll have more insight on the whole story!

Okay, so it's less "This story isn't what I thought it was" and more "You picked the wacky path we didn't expect you to choose"?. After I woke up the 4th time in a row I couldn't differentiate between "reality" and "nightmare" anymore, which would be an interesting gameplay mechanic in its own right, but I was feeling misled at that point since everything I did before then seemed null and void by "waking up" 4 times in a row.

Yeah, like we said, what you do can have consequences and Tom warns you before you drive away with the car. We intended for the story to become clearer when you play the game multiple times in a variety of ways.

I suppose that makes sense. I I think I went through the text too quickly since space both interacts as well as speeds up the text boxes, so I missed the warning and it felt really random that he jumped in the car and sped off after two nights of uneventful guard duty.

Yeah...I had basically the same experience as the OP on my first playthrough. Screwed up the generator puzzle then Buck got killed and Eva was acting weird so I took the car keys and tried to make a break for it. After that things didn't really make any sense to me.

Identical to my first playthrough which I just finished. WTF is going on. I stumbled through the game with no idea what to do or what was going on.

Here you go, it takes a while and a few playthroughs to figure out: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=442309341

Beware of spoilers.

I had a similar experience. I wound up asking "wtf? "wtf ?" and "wtf did I just play?". It went south rather quickly.

I'll try again then.
