how does it work to solve the pad lock

You have to find a location on the map that will produce the same view as you see on the image. You need to find both the grid reference and the cardinal direction you need to face.

The image you're looking for is
standing on a treasure island
where you can see a sea monster to the left
a distant island and seagulls in the centre
and an island to the right.
