Funny, I'm basically questioning the opposite. Is this one worth it? Maybe we can answer each other the question, lol.
I really loved Detective Grimoire as a well made point n' click adventure detective puzzle game with great animated visuals! Considering it costs roughly 5€, it's a bargain. Think I spent 3 days figuring out puzzles before I finished the game.
One thing, Detective Grimoire is also a sequel, or more like a reboot of the free browser version way back in 2007. Worth a play!

I'm just slightly confused why Tangle Tower costs a lot more? They don't look much different from each other, so I'm guessing because it's new and possibly the size of content is also bigger.
My advice would be for you to play it. It seems like everything was thought as a saga and you'll see that a lot of elements from the first game come back in this one.
See it mostly as a simpler, less ambitious (but still beautiful) mystery.
I recently played through Detective Grimoire. I've played through the game once before, back when it was released, but I wanted to refresh my memory. I 100%:ed the game in about 2 hours.
Today I played through Tangle Tower. As a first play through, it took me 5 hours. I don't get too stumped and managed the puzzles pretty quickly, but had to go back n' forth a bit near the end to tie up some loose ends in interigations.
After playing Detective Grimoire, I decided to come back and answer my own question in case anyone else wondered the same thing that I did.
Most of the comments above already explain why so I won't go into details, but the bottom line is that I highly recommend the previous game. It's well worth its price, just like Tangle Tower.
edit: and of course, if you really loved 'Tangle Tower', definitely support these talented devs as much as you can by purchasing their other games so they can hopefully make another Grimoire game! :)
However I am surprised at the almost universal acclaim for Tangle Tower. I found it a tough slog to work through. The graphics and humour are good. Everything else, the story and puzzles in particular were not up to the high standard set by Grimoire.
