I wish the overworld sprites wouldn't look like ripped straight out of FF1
It is an interesting idea but the artdesign is a huge turnoff. I'm not saying pixels are bad, I'm saying it is bad i can see the FF1 bases in those sprites

To be fair, A lot of 16x16 NES-style sprites are going to end up looking like either Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest no matter what. There's not a ton of room to really experiment with.

Also the music in the trailer was ripped from Dot Zo Games's Nyan-Tech. do they know that they are using their song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhP4B7xvtOE

Are you sure this music aren't all from a separate third party whose use is related to creative commons? This seems to be a fairly common thing for Japanese indie games since situations regarding music from One Way Heroics and 100% OJ.

I sapose that is a possibility. I've only heard this tune on one game years ago, and no where else until this morning in the trailer.

The song itself sounds heavily inspired by early dragon quests, no doubt why they chose it and perfectly fine if its legally in the clear.

Looking LIKE Final Fantasy? Those sprites are just modified fighter overworld sprites from Final Fantasy 1. In addition plenty of the overworld terrain sprites are rips from the Dragon Warrior series. That's just sad.

Are you actually suggesting that the NES roleplaying games were written with the RPG Maker tools?

16x16 is extremley small for a sprite, it mirrors games of old..... there are only so many ways to make a sprite look humanoid in a 16x16 box, if it looks similar that is why.... doesn't mean they were stolen art simply just done in the same style.

Not RPG Maker itself, but similar tooling.

And as someone else previously pointed out, you do not have a whole lot of variety or options when you are playing with only 8-bit graphics. Could he have made things look a little different? Maybe, but not by much without destroying the individual sprites in a way that would not be recognizable.

I remember thinking quite a few of the FF2 (NES version) character sprites were remarkably similar or near identical to FF1. Does that mean Square did things on the cheap by ripping from their previous game? No... it was just a limitation of the system from bygone eras.

Remember 8-bit had a few restrictions. Not only is sprite size a limitation, but also color. The available color pallete available is limited to begin with, and that is further restricted by a limitation on the number of colors able to be included in a single sprite.

its a direct mix of Dragon Quest from the NES days and FF1
