For the most part though, "you" are the heroine. Whenever she speaks prior to gaining memories you make the choice of what she says. Most of the other folks do the talking and Orion's character makes a lot more sense in the game as he's sorta a stand-in to give you clues as to how the heroine is acting and feeling. It is however heavily designed for self-insertion, so I don't think you should have so much of a problem with her personality getting in the way.
Gonna buy the game whenever I have enough money :)
Thanks for your reply Maverynthia :)
So, even though the anime tried to preserve this it wound up making her an almost pointless existence. Because unlike the VN you aren't self-inserting in the anime and are more a casual observer, thus making it more evident that she's not really doing anything. Add to that what the first person said about how Orion has a lot more purpose in the VN (he just is sorta...there in the anime) and I found the VN to be far more interesting and attention grabbing.
Assuming you don't mind the fact you have to self-insert.
Anyways, from what I see the VN should be interesting and I'm sure the story is a lot more complex in the VN than the anime (+ there's like 20 endings, right?), so I'm gonna try it out :)
Thanks for your feedback GoldenKitten :3
And I believe your conclusion about the anime is correct. I think they didn't know how to make her act because she was a blank slate and rather than "destroy" the players vision of her by forcing some personality on her they tried to remain as true to the VN as possible. But of course Anime and Visual Novels are very different mediums through which to tell a story and just in the same way Movies that are made from Books often have to take artistic license with the material (because movies often can't go into the same level of detail as books) when translating a VN to anime you also need to take liberties. Maybe they just didn't know what to do, or maybe they were afraid of angering fans, but...well, we know what the result was. Blargh.
Yeah, movie and anime adaptations always need to make some changes to the source material (though there are a few anime titles which follow their respective mangas/ligh novels perfectly, but in the case of VNs it's pretty much impossible), and the question always is what needs to be changed, what needs to be removed/added, etc. Some titles succeed at it and make the anime enjoyable (like Clannad, though I don't know how it compares to VN 'cause I never played it), others, well...
And whatever we say, the worst kind of adaptations are live action movie adaptations of anime ._.
