it doesn't for me
Xbone controller did work fine, but there's definitely something going on that can cause issues with anything other than pure XInput controllers.
Not that I'm saying every controller will work that easy, just my experience.
For me it did default to keyboard/mouse shooter instead of controller layout and switching to controller layout doesn't work.
And yes, of course it works, because it's steam in the middle translating your DirectInput buttons into keyboard and mouse which game has support for.
it is standard USB HID instead of the proprietary xInput (which is just a variant of USB HID btw)
Because regardless of what you use, the game itself has to still support it. Also have seen games to hook up into webcams which are installing themselves as USB HID devices to prevent players from interacting with the game. Then so many Unity games where developers hardcoded everything for Xbox controller but engine is actually using RawInput so that all of the controller like devices are suddenly constantly rotating your camera around until you unplug them.
I'm not developer or extreme nerd, so I might use wrong terminology but at the same time I have seen so much over so many games that I have some level of knowledge of what's going on.
And with this game I'm mostly interested as it does appear to be XInput only, but for some reason Steam input XInput wrapping doesn't appear to be working.
because they are fundamentally using the same protocol...
