Its the Steam client that you need to uninstall and install again. Check to see if the Steam.dll file is in your Steam directory. Or try to use the client update. Is it just PvZ that your having trouble with.

Same problem here. Reinstall and client update didn't solve the prolem.
Also the 'regsvr32 Steam.dll' leads to an error.

Steam.dll version is 2.0.1614.192 from 20th December 2012
OS: Windows 8 64Bit Enterprise

Any further suggestions?

It seems to be time or date related. I have the same problem, but it just occurs randomly. None of the suggestions works for me. One day it works and the next day it doesn't. I simply wait 24 hours before I try to run it again.

Everytime I encounter this problem, I just restart(not reinstall) Steam and everything is good.

Read and try this:

Worked for me. Hope it helps.

Zak's answer is the one that works for me. Whenever that message comes up I just restart Steam. Works for me everytime

Restart your system then try to play it. It happens to me when I play other games for a long time then try to play Zombies.

This will fix it. Open a window C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Plants vs Zombies
Then open a separate window C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam
Right-click drag the Steam.dll file from the Steam folder and drag-copy it to the Plants vs Zombies folder.
Don't delete anything. Don't reinstall anything. Repeat for all "missing" files.Fixed forever. I had same issue, worked for me. Guaranteed to work for you. Have fun. Steam RULES!

Is it a problem that my PvZ and my steam client are installed to 2 different drives?

i started to install pvz and it installed it really quickly. i then ran it and it came up with the same error

The game is looking for that file in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Plants vs Zombies folder, but it is in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam folder. If you copy that file from the C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam folde to the C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Plants vs Zombies folder then the game will work.

i found why
for me i found the problem ..i was installing pvsz on another harddrive...i uninstall pvsz ...and i reinstall it in programs files...and it works ...so if you have the game on another partition or (maybe that ones its just suposition) an other partition try to reinstall the game on the main partition...the one with the system ...
