How to FIX Plants vs. Zombies CRASH

1) open notepad and copy and paste the following text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SteamPopCap\PlantsVsZombies]
"ScreenMode"=dword:00000000

2) save this text in notepad as "fix.reg" in some folder of your preference

3) go to that folder and then double click (open) "fix.reg". It will ask you to make changes to your system registry.

4) Then you can go to Steam and start Plants vs. Zombies , without crashing!

When I try it, it says Cannot import: the specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

I have tried that and it didn't work. Once it was opened and tried to make changes this is the message that pops up?

I havent tried yet, but I am sure this is the fix for me, my game only started after changing resolution to 1024x768 and back. It wasnt a 100% fix and messed up my icons and window sizes. Now I am gonna try this. If I dont get back. thanks in advance Bolsonaro2018 for digging this up.

there has been a client update that fixes the crashing issues. i had this problem too. it works great.

This appears to be true. Thankfully it is running fine again it seems. Thanks steam for finally fixing this (even if it was by accident or not)

If executing this reg file is causing problems, try editing the registry manually.

I would love to edit it manually but I have windows 10, which I am unfamiliar with. I've attempted to locate the file and still have no idea where it's at to edit. Anyone familiar with W-10 whom can help would be greatly rewarded with warm feelings and many thanks.

Press the WINKEY + R and type REGEDIT

Au contraire, I do use Google. See, what happened was that Google brought me here which in turn led me to you. So Google did do it's job in helping me fix this stupid issue via your geniusness! :-D

This actually helped me for a whole other reason. I needed to go change the registry (because turning off 3d acceleration made the game unable to work) and didn't know that it was SteamPopCap instead of PopCap. Thanks anyways.

Works for Origin ver. too, it's just in its own path in the registry instead of under Steam's.
