Black screen after popcap logo

After the popcap logo its always stuck on a black screen and well i've tried a lot of differant things to fix it but none of them work. does anyone know how to fix it?

People, I've got the same issue with the blackscreen. Nothing is happening. Everyone send a bug report to Steam. The more complaints about it, the more attention we get, and hopefully they will do the right thing and fix the problem for us. Keep sending complaints.

! problem: Blank screen with music, after PopCap logo... at 06.02.2016, i try to start the game and i see the black (blank) screen problem. i DON'T do any driver UPDate; just steam updates itself at the opening. (My english is not good). i try to use "compatibility mode" for PvZ, nothing change. Try to un-install/install again, problem again :).
i readed the solution below, from the "CRASH REPORT" section, gamer named "Pʀσρʜϵτ" written at 3 Feb @ 8:46pm ; i try to explain more (Thank you Prophet :)
=Temporary Solution= You can play the game, but this is not a real solution
BASiC EXPLAiN: in "Regedit", i changed PvZ 's "ScreenMode" dword to "0", refresh the page and open the game from PvZ shortcut. Game start in "windowed mode", go to options and check "Full Screen", start to play game (successfully) ; when finish my game, go to "options" menu, un-check the full screen, then exit game :) if you left "full screen" checked, you see blank screen next try to start PvZ. !!
REGEDiT.EXE is very simple and DANGEROUS TOOL. if you do something wrong, it is possible to SERiOUSLY HARM your WiNDOWS operating system , even, you had to do a FORMAT or Recovery install of windows operating system, so loose all your files, pics...
DETAiLS: in regedit.exe (you can run it from "Start Menu" -> RUN, type "Regedit", it starts) ; you must choose "HKEY_CURRENT_USER", double click "Software", double click "SteamPopCap", than you must see "PlantsVsZombies". at right window, find "Screen Mode", double click it and change the value "1" to "0". close the regedit window and start the PvZ.

Well this is a relieft that you all are having the same problem.

I installed, played a few levels then came back later in the day and couldn't load game. I've done drive updates. Uninstalled game and reinstalled.
No luck.

I can play the game if I go into the options and unselect the full screen mode.

Where are you finding that at? I dont see an 'options' button.. and when I click on settings or something like that, there aren't any options to choose full screen or not?

Was you running it in full screen or windowed mode?

May? When I purchased this game it was under the impression I'd have an actual functioning game I could play. They're definitely responsible for providing a working game after taking your money so I hope they fix this soon.

I'm having the same black screen after pop cap logo. I'm updating my nvidia drivers now but doesn't look like that'll help from what I've read. O_o

So after I updated my driver it worked.. until I closed out of it and then tried to re-open it. So I went to another thread and found the way to play it until steam fixes it. Its not the full screen. So if you all want to try this and see if it works, here it is:

Windows+R, type "regedit", Ok

Then find this in the tree :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
SOFTWARE
SteamPopCap
PlantsVsZombies

You should see a few things on the right, select ScreenMode and set its value to 0.

Now the game will launch in a window. It's not great, but better than nothing !

You might be able to switch back to fullscreen, by Alt+Enter or in the options. I can't, but it works for someone else.

I was able to open with this above method. And I could switch to full screen mode afterwards. HOWEVER when I tried to minimize in full screen mode ♥♥♥♥ went nuts. So IME don't try to minimize or close when in full screen and go back to windows mode before closing. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ but at least it's a temporary fix.
